Using the Used Treadmills at the Gym

Its not hard to make the go around with every piece of equipment a gym has to offer because you want a little variety in your weight loss efforts. Essentially this is the best way to get the most from the gym by keeping you mind focused on something else so you get done faster, seemingly. Of course this is why the gym will play loud music and such over the speakers along with the televisions. With all this in mind the very last thing you should be worried about is the machine you are using.

From the treadmills to the stair master to the stationary bike these machines are used constantly day after day. Additionally most gyms aren’t exactly intent on spending gobs of money to keep the equipment fresh and new. The gym I go to hasn’t up-dated their used treadmills in over 7 years.

The price on the equipment is usually pretty large; nicer machines will have a price tag north of $4,000 and will last for several years at a time. If the gym wanted to get new equipment every 3 or 4 years it would cost almost $100,000 to get it done, so usually they just lease them. After the lease they are sold to us, the public, as used treadmills, used bikes etc. In a really high end gym the lease may not exceed 5 years, but in most they are between 5 and 10.

Mixed in with the new equipment you will always see older slightly neglected models mixed in. A lot of people are of the mindset that a gym is a gym and that any machine can give you a great cardio workout whether you are on a new or a used treadmill. You need all the help you can get which is why there is a difference between new and used treadmills.

A new machine will have a more powerful engine which will make the running less damaging to your joints. Event he avid runners prefer the new treadmills because they are easier to use. Because they offer better technology they have more to offer making the run easier and helping you burn more calories.
