We are always striving to try the best diet for good health to have a longer life. But did you ever think that by just changing your eating habits, you could accomplish the same thing? We need to take a look at the most basic nutritional needs our body needs:
The Importance Of Balance. Thee is an old saying; “We Are What We Eat”. I am not talking about sticking to a calorie counter or following the latest fad diet. We need the proper balance of carbs, proteins and fats on a daily basis.
The first thing we need to do is stop brainwash ourselves into thinking we have to give up all our favorite foods. Indeed, by not eating our choices of very high calories, we will lose weight, but can we really keep it up for the long haul? No! To achieve good health, we can eat our favorite foods; but only in very small portions. The body won’t feel bad and deprived. This is the key of a successful diet!
Let’s look at the above statement about how we need to balance to nutritional needs. Did you know that protein is made up from amino acids? Proteins help our bodies to repair damage to our skin, muscles and helps cells to form muscles. Internally, proteins also aids in keeping our organs working at their optimal.
Have you heard about nonessential and essential proteins? Our bodies produce alanine, histidine and glutamates which are nonessential proteins. Essential proteins would come from animal food sources and plants. These essential proteins would be lysine, arginine, and phenylamine. You could get all of these proteins from meats and cheeses. Nutritionists also say that we should get our proteins from plant sources like legumes, and certain grains. This is because they contain fewer fats. But no matter what your daily number is, only 10% of your carbohydrates should come from processed sugars. If you dietary allowance is somewhere between 1500-2000 calories, think how a 250-calorie candy bar can set it off track. Because I have been there when I was much younger I have seen the results of always going on a diet and being miserable. I think I have tried pretty much every diet that was ever invented and all they do is make you miserable, starving and wreck your metabolism so that it is even harder to lose weight in the future.
It took me lots of research and experience to realize the damage I had been doing to my body over the years. For the past 10 years or so I have been focussed on eating normal, healthy, wholesome food with the occasional treats and the difference in how I look and feel is amazing. This is what I want for you. I want you to stop going on diets and stop thinking about your weight and food all the time.
So here are my tips for getting off the dieting roundabout!
. stop calling food \”bad foods\” or good foods. Instead think about which foods are going to nourish your body.
. stop being good all week and bingeing on the weekend. Turn it around and focus on eating well on the weekend.
. stop starting a new diet every Monday. Start a new exercise regime on the weekend. Hard to exercise with a hangover which means you will look after yourself more on Sat night!
. Stop putting attention on the \’bad\’ things you\’ve eaten. Start focusing on the good things you have done for your body eg: took the dog for a walk, drank soda water in between drinks at the party.
. stop a lifestyle of denial. Start allowing small portions of your favourite food every now and then, it\’ll stop you being miserable and stop you from bingeing.
. stop shutting yourself away from social functions because you are on a diet. Start living life and enjoy your network of friends
