Increase Your Metabolism With Vitamins

A low metabolism can cause uncontrollable weight gain. If you have hypothyroidism, your metabolism may also be affected. Why is metabolism so important to weight gain? Metabolism is a process where the body will convert the food we consume into energy. The problem with a sluggish metabolism is that you can gain weight handily even if you have a low-calorie diet. The take-away here is: If you want to lose weight, then you have to boost your metabolism.
When you have low metabolism, not only will you gain unwanted weight, you are also prone to fatigue. Think about your day today. Was there any point at which you felt tired prematurely? Always feeling tired is a sign that you have slow metabolism. You can’t really control with the autonomic functions of your body. However, there are some things you can do in order to boost your metabolism.
You can increase your nutrient intake in order to increase your metabolism. You can take multi-vitamins for overall health, or you can take targeted supplements rich in co-enzyme Q10. Stuff like vitamin C and vitamin B-complex can help improve slow metabolism.
You have a choice, you can either take vitamin supplements or you can augment your diet with fruits and vegetables. With a good diet, you can help boost your metabolism by eating the right food at the right time. For example, you have to start the habit of eating breakfast early in the morning to start your day. If you fail to eat breakfast, your body will think that you are starving, thus it will trigger the slowdown of your metabolism in order to save energy. This same phenomenon happens when you starve yourself by limiting your diet to less than 1000 calories a day.
If you opt to start a healthy diet augmented with food rich in vitamins and minerals, then you have to increase the intake of vitamin B, most especially vitamin B-12. The only way for vegetarian to get the daily recommended dose of vitamin B-12 is through vitamin supplements. But if you can eat liver, tuna, or turkey in a regular basis, these too are great sources of vitamin B-12.
If ever you decide to start taking supplements you should always consult your doctor first. Any changes in diet should also be under the guidance of a doctor or a nutritionist.

Is Dry Eye Syndrome A Serious Medical Condition?
November 20, 2010 by Adrian Fletcher
Dry eye syndrome is a common ailment that many people deal with these days. The problem is caused by an individual not having the ability to produce enough fluid and mucus to keep their orbitals properly moisturized.
Doctors state that there are two major factors that play into a dry eye condition. People who suffer from this ailment are experiencing the condition either due to a reduction in their tears or an imbalance in their tear fluids. Even though these two factors sound minuscule, they can turn your eyes into your worst enemies.
A person that is known to have healthy eyes will consistently have a thin film that covers their orbs. Even though each and everyone of us has this thin film covering the external surface of our orbitals, it is possible for dry spots to begin to appear on the surface. It is fairly easy to recognize the symptoms of this condition.
Some of the first things that people that suffer from the ailment tend to notice is they repeatedly have extra burning, itching and stinging on their eyes surface. The first thing that an individual will do whenever their eyes begin to ache is to rub them. It will actually aggravate the problem more when the eyes are rubbed as opposed to leaving them alone. Sensitivity to light, wind, and smoke are also common problems that people with the condition tend to complain about.
Our eyes naturally produce two different types of tears. These tears are known as basic tears and reflex tears. Basic tears is what helps our eyes remain moist, while reflex tears only appear on the surface of our orbitals whenever we are filled with intense emotions.
Reflex tears and basic tears differ amongst each other. Basic tears are continuously produced by our orbitals and contain mucus and water. However, on the adverse side, reflex tears only come out during extreme emotional times. Reflex tears contain large quantities of water and they do not secrete any mucus. Also, reflex tears tend to dry up fairly quickly, thus meaning that these types of tears do not have the ability to provide an adequate amount of lubrication to our eyes surface.
Even though there are millions of people that suffer from dry eye syndrome, many eye doctors admit that the problem should not cause a concern for everyone. The only time that you should seek help for the ailment is if it persists for a long period of time or if it interferes with your basic eye functions.
Dry eye syndrome can cause an individual a lot of pain if they do not have the problem rectified in a short time span. There are different medications available to people that suffer with this ailment that will help them relieve the symptoms of the condition for a short period of time. So far there is no cure for the condition.

Should You Purchase Fish Oil Or Flax Oil? Find Out The Truth!

Omega-3 fatty acids and flax seed oil have been touted as wonder supplements because of the health benefits of every one. A primary reason why obesity and cardiovascular disease are on the rise happens because the types of body fat all of us eat in general tend to be out of balance. You see, body fat isn’t the adversary and not ought to be the adversary. We need fat within our diet. It’s pivotal in several daily capabilities. Our fat soluble vitamins actually need to be used along with fatty acids in order to be processed efficiently.
I can’t remain the thoughts of people who think that eating body fat will make them body fat. This could not be more mistaken. The truth is which any kind of over consumption of the macro nutritional (carbohydrates, fat, or even protein) will make you body fat. And if you do not exercise, nicely it is almost a guarantee.
However there are various kinds of fats that are superior to others. One big bad body fat that has absolutely no purpose finding yourself in our diets is actually trans fat. Trans fat other than Conjugated linoleic acid which is naturally found in high amount associated with natural, lawn fed beef, is man made. With the miracles of meals technology, we are able to molecularly alter the meals in order to taste much better as well as last longer. This is when trans fat enter into perform. They include hydrogen atoms to the the actual specified fatty acid and split the dual provides.
What this does is actually make the fatty acid more stable also known as, “preserved.” They are altering caffeine character from the essential fatty acid to make it stronger.
A good example is to appear upon the rear of the container associated with peanut butter that isn’t natural or organic. Whenever you look on the back again, you will see what partially hydrogenated or hydrogenated. That is a obvious danger signal of a meals item with trans fat. Now, if you have been living in the cage lately, trans fat are said in order to cause cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, and obesity.
Now, exactly what has been found with flax seed oil as well as omega-3 fatty acids would be the exact complete opposite of trans fats. Almost.
Flax seed essential oil has been touted as a wonderful health supplement because it consists of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids tend to be tricky to find in the standard United states diet plan. We need normally the three:1 to 2:one ratio associated with ω 6 to omega-3 essential fatty acids. The typical American diet is around twenty:one!Flax seed Essential oil versus Omega-3 fatty acids
So lots of people believe getting flax seed oil can help with this particular, however, many research indicate something completely different.
The thing is, there are 3 types of omega 3 fatty acids. They are alpha-linolenic acidity (ALA, found in flax seed products), eicosapentaenoic acidity (Epa, present in fish) as well as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, found in seafood).
Studies have found which all of the omega-3 enhancing advantages of flax seed essential oil and flax seed products is basically nil, when compared with omega-3 fatty acids. The reason being flax seed products lack Environmental protection agency as well as DHA. Right now, your body may create Epa from ALA, but the amounts you would need to consume associated with flaxseed essential oil would be large and definitely not secure.
Epa and DHA are only present in greasy fish such as salmon, mackerel, and herring and have confirmed health benefits such as a decrease in coronary disease, most cancers, diabetic issues, increase in blood insulin sensitivity, a decrease in blood pressure level, and even a rise within cognitive perform. As well as in a few studies, omega-3 fatty acids has been discovered to help help with losing stomach fat
So overall, I’d skip on the drinking the flax seed essential oil and just stay with fish oil. It has been proven time and time again to become a wonder supplement with tons of excellent health benefits.

Research Reveals That You Are What Your Mother Ate!
November 11, 2010 by Mike Pritsker

What’s more important: nature or nurture? The argument has been raging on for decades. In other words, are you strictly the end result of your upbringing and actions? Or are you simply a product of your genes? As a chiropractor in San Diego, many people ask if their back pain is due to bad genes.
A safe bet is that we are a combination of both. Our genes give us a blueprint with both positives and negatives and our actions either maximize or minimize the hand we’ve been dealt. But, a new science has thickened the plot! How? The new science is called “Epigenetics” and it attempts to explain how the environment can modify your genes. That’s a unique twist to this debate – wouldn’t you say?
In a report that was published, scientists from the University of Utah showed rats that received poor nutrition in the womb genetically altered themselves to be born into a nutritionally deficient environment.
What does all this mean? The rat fetuses’ genes actually changed to prepare them for the environment they were going to be born into in life. Since there was poor nutrition in the womb during the mother’s pregnancy, the rats were likely to grow to smaller sizes when compared to others born to normal healthy nutrition levels.
Being smaller was not the only negative side effect. The rats also had a higher risk for many health problems throughout their lives. They had higher risk of such diseases like diabetes, growth retardation, cardiovascular disease, obesity and neuro developmental delays. But These Are Rats! How Are Humans Affected?
According to Science Daily, “Although the study involved rats, the genes and cellular mechanisms involved are the same as those in humans.” Also according to Science Daily: “The new ‘epigenetics’ has taught us how nature is changed by nurture,” said Gerald Weissmann, M.D., Editor-in-Chief of The FASEB Journal. “The jury’s in and, yes, expectant moms really are eating for two. This study shows not only that we need to address problems such as preeclampsia during pregnancy, but also that prenatal care is far more important than anyone could have imagined a decade ago.”
After reading this new information, several questions came to mind. If a fetus can alter its genes to adapt to the environment they are being born into, can a person alter their genes to adapt to their environment after they are born? And since I treat patients in San Diego with chiropractic care, what effect does chiropractic treatment during pregnancy have on the potential of a child way after they are born. If the environment is altered for the better, it only makes sense the fetus would adapt genetically in a positive way.
Until proper research is done, no one can be 100% sure. But one thing certainly makes sense: During pregnancy, everything should be done to ensure the developing fetus has the best possible environment to grow into. Proper exercise, balanced diet, and a healthy spine with proper chiropractic care are all key elements in growing a healthy baby.

How To Relieve Rhinitis Symptoms Naturally – Advice From A Sinus Expert
November 9, 2010 by Helen Miller

Whereas conventional drugs have failed, these natural remedies have helped many rhinitis sufferer’s to relieve their symptoms.
Where you don’t suffer from allergies but constantly have a blocked and/or runny nose, you have what is termed in the medical profession as ‘non-allergic rhinitis’.
Certain things can trigger the sinus passages to become inflamed which subsequently causes the symptoms of non-allergic rhinitis such as;- chemical fumes, smog, tobacco smoke, perfume odours, temperature and humidity changes, common cold virus, spicy food, beer and other types of alcohol, drugs such as beta blockers, anti-inflammatories, sedatives, oral contraceptives, using decongestant nasal sprays longer than the prescribed period, stress, pregnancy and other changes in hormone levels, hypothyroidism.
The symptoms include;- runny nose, nasal congestion and difficulty breathing, sinus/facial pain, sinus/facial tenderness, sinus/facial pressure, headaches, pain in teeth, pain in jaw, pain in ears, pain through and around eyes, fatigue, dizziness, drainage of a thick yellow or green discharge from the nose or down the back of the throat (post nasal drip), reduced sense of smell and taste, cough (which may be worse at night), nausea, sore throat and halitosis (bad breath), irritability, sleep disorders, anxiety and nervousness, chronic nose bleeds, perforated septum, dry/crusty nasal passages, rapid heart beat.
The following natural treatments have helped many non-allergic rhinitis sufferers and are extremely effective.
Nasal sprays (natural) – There are a variety of natural nasal sprays such as SinuSoothe, Sinus Buster and Sinol which are all effective for rhinitis. However probably the best of the lot is SinuSoothe, it is the most pleasant to use and offers a wider range of benefits. It even kills sinus infections. It is doctor recommended and contains clinically proven ingredients.
Saline nose sprays – These are extremely useful for moisturizing dry sinus passages, relieving nasal congestion and removing irritants that are causing the rhinitis. They come in two forms – isotonic and hypertonic solutions and it is important to find a saline nasal spray that is free from chemicals.
Sinus irrigation – The sinus can be irrigated with saline solution to flush out irritants and relieve nasal congestion. A neti-pot, syringe or similar apparatus is used to administer saline to the sinus cavities and can be very helpful at reducing rhinitis symptoms. Isotonic or hypertonic saline solutions can be used.
Anti-histamines (natural) – These can be effective for some non-allergic rhinitis sufferer’s. Butterbur and stinging nettle in particular can be used in lieu of otc anti-histamines and have been clinically proven to be just as effective.
Reduce sinus inflammation – Natural anti-inflammatories can greatly reduce sinus inflammation and the associated rhinitis symptoms. Turmeric, ginger, omega oils and vitamin C are all excellent natural alternatives to ibuprofen etc. and are much safer. However still take the advice of your healthfood store and treat them with the respect they deserve.
Improving immune function – Improving immune system function by supplementing a healthy diet with vitamins can regulate the body’s reaction to irritants. Exercise, reducing stress and sleep also assist the immune system.
Avoid the triggers – You should avoid whatever triggers your rhinitis such as strong odours, tobacco smoke etc. whenever it is practical to do so.
Before using new treatments please speak with your doctor first.

The Different Benefits Associated With Taking In Banana
November 8, 2010 by Mark Green
If I get stranded in an island and there is only one fruit bearing tree on it how I wish it could be a banana. You may be wondering why. Well, it is simply because bananas contain vitamins and nutrients that are enough to keep you alive for many days. That is the reason why among all the fruits I have ever tasted banana is still my favorite.
First of all, bananas can increase your energy. It is so packed with carbohydrates and healthy sugar that eating two or three is enough to provide you with long lasting power and energy that you need for the day. You will also notice that you are more alert and active after enjoying eating one.
Another helpful benefit of bananas is that it helps regulate blood pressure and prevent common heart diseases. This is because bananas are rich in potassium that allows your blood to circulate well throughout your body. Potassium is also essential in an every athlete’s diet since it helps maintain muscle and heart tissue.
If you’re having digestive problems I suggest you start eating bananas. Bananas are so rich in fiber therefore it can help you keep your digestive system healthy. Not only can bananas lessen the effect of constipation, it can also reverse the effect of diarrhea. This is again due to its ability to retain electrolyte in the body, an element that can be lost due to diarrhea.
Bananas can be good anti-depressants too. A single banana can contain tryptophan enough to improve your mood and keep you feeling happy all day long. If you’re not familiar with tryptophan, it’s an amino acid that helps the body produce serotonin, a well-known mood enhancing chemical. So when you’re feeling down and blue, just grab a banana.
Aside from these, bananas are also effective against ulcers, kidney problems, morning sickness, heartburn, mosquito bites and many more. Eating bananas is also linked to strong bones and good eyesight. So if I were you I would start including this super fruit to my daily menu and enjoy its many health benefits!

Capsaicin Nasal Sprays – How Do They Work?
November 8, 2010 by Helen Miller
Capsaicin nasal sprays such as Sinus Buster and Sinol have helped many sinusitis and sinus allergy sufferers.
These nasal sprays contain the active ingredient capsaicin which reduces substance P. Substance P plays a major role in causing inflammation. It can relieve nasal congestion, headaches, sinus pain etc. The capsaicin can also desensitizes the nasal passages to allergens therefore nasal allergy symptoms such as a runny nose, sneezing etc. can be relieved. Because they are natural they should be safe to use daily on a long term basis and have no known side effects. Many people get great relief from using capsaicin based nasal sprays, however, like all products, they do not work for everybody and are not to everyones liking. Upon initial use you get a powerful burning sensation, termed ‘the kick’, increased nasal discharge and sneezing. The manufacturers not hide this fact and clearly states that these sensations are part of the process that relieves symptoms such as nasal congestion, sinus pressure, sinus headaches and sinus allergy symptoms.
There are other natural nasal sprays that are extremely effective for sinusitis, sinus allergy and headache sufferers. In particular SinuSoothe 100% Natural Nasal Spray is doctor recommended and contains clinically proven ingredients that relieve sinus pain, sinus headaches, nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing etc. It contains the essential oils of manuka, tea tree, cinnamon, cumin, turmeric, ginger and frankincense and does not cause the pwerful burning sensation of capsaicin nasal sprays. Scientific studies have shown that similar to capsaicin, ginger is a Cox 1 and Cox 2 inhibitor and reduces substance P, but unlike capsaicin, it doesn’t cause the powerful burning sensation. These ingredients have powerful anti-allergenic, anti-biotic, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-histamine, pain relieving, decongestant and expectorant properties. It provides long term benefits for sinus sufferers also. Similar to capsaicin nasal sprays it desensitizes the nasal passages to allergens therefore reduces sinus allergy reactions. However, unlike capsaicin nasal sprays, it is extremely effective at killing bacterial and fungal infections which cause sinusitis. SinuSoothe is totally safe to use daily on a long term basis, has no side effects, has no known drug interactions and is non-addictive.
If you are looking for great natural alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs then these natural nasal sprays are well worth trying.
If you suffer from sinusitis or sinus allergies you should consult your doctor.

How To Treat Post-nasal Drip Effectively
November 4, 2010 by Helen Miller
Natural treatments are extremely effective at relieving post-nasal drip and rhinitis.
Post-nasal drip is normally due to rhinitis. Mucus gathers at the back of the throat and nasal passages and drips down the back of the throat leading to a sore throat and cough (which can be chronic). Post-nasal drip is usually the result of excessive mucus production, the prevention of proper sinus drainage and thicker than normal mucus.
The following conditions are often associated with increased nasal drainage. Also, it would not be unusual to have more than one factor involved in a particular individual. The following may cause an increase in thin secretions: viruses, allergies, cold temperatures, certain foods or spices, pregnancy or hormonal changes, drug side-effects (particularly certain high blood pressure medications), structural problems (deviated septum, large turbinates), vasomotor rhinitis (an abnormal regulatory problem with the nose).
The following may cause secretions to thicken;- pollutants and irritants, structural abnormalities, hormonal irregularities, drug side effects, reduced humidity levels, bacterial and fungal infections, old age. This thickened mucus can give the impression that nasal secretions have increased when in actual fact they have not.
These proven natural remedies have helped many people improve their rhinitis and post nasal drip.
Avoid allergens and irritants – Whenever possible avoid allergens and irritants and minimise your exposure to them. For example avoid areas with a high pollen content and choose hardwood flooring instead of carpets.
Natural nasal sprays – SinuSoothe in particular is doctor recommended and contains natural ingredients which relieve inflammation, nasal congestion, sinus pain, headaches, removes airborne irritants etc. SinuSoothe is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and therefore kills any infection present. In addition it contains natural anti-histamines that relieve a runny, itchy nose and sneezing etc. and desensitizes the nasal passages to allergens. It also thins the mucus due to it’s decongestant and expectorant properties. SinuSoothe can be used long term, is non – addictive and has no side effects. It provides not only a ‘quick fix’ but also a long term solution for sinusitis sufferers.
Saline nasal sprays – Nasal sprays containing saline solution (isotonic or hypertonic) can be used to relieve a blocked nose and flush out allergens.
Sinus irrigation – Using a saline solution (isotonic or hypertonic) the sinuses can be flushed free of irritants, allergens and nasal congestion. A neti-pot or similar device can be used.
Anti-histamines (natural) – To avoid the side effects of otc anti-histamines natural ones such as butterbur are extremely effective at reducing the allergy response. There are others and many have been clinically proven to be effective.
Boost immunity – Vitamin C, B complex, garlic, zinc and a multi-vitamin and mineral can all assist the immune system and help it cope better with infections and allergies. Of course these should be used to supplement a healthy diet not replace it.
Natural anti-inflammatories- Since the symptoms of chronic sinusitis are caused by inflammation it follows that by reducing inflammation you will reduce the severity of the symptoms. Omega 3,6 &9 oils, vitamin C, turmeric and ginger are all excellent natural anti-inflammatories. There are plenty of others and your local health food store should be able to advise you on these. It usually takes about 4 weeks for these to start taking effect.
Nasal barrier gels – These can be applied to the inside of the nostrils to cach pollen.
It is always advisable to speak with a doctor before using new treatments.
