1. Have very specific goals: The more vague your goals are, the more likely it is that you will not succeed. You see, vague goals lead to vague action. On the other hand, specific goals lead to very specific action that creates rapid change.
2. Use positive reinforcement, not self torture: Many people motivate themselves by using whipping techniques. In other words, they exercise or diet in order to avoid something negative. It’s much more useful, however, to run towards something positive.
3. Expect to fail: This is what gets most people. They make a mistake or have a bad day and then they throw in the towel and go on an all out binge. In reality, the most successful people in all areas of life have the highest frequency of mistakes. The key here is to embrace them and never stop moving forward.
4. Don’t rely on your mind’s eye for positive visualization: Instead, print out pictures, print out quotes and do whatever it takes to make your environment automatically motivating. In this day and age, your mind has to deal with too many things. Make motivation and visualization as automatic as possible.
5. Pay attention to routines, not results: Although counterintuitive, if you obsess over results you are less likely to succeed. You see, obsessing over results is an emotional roller coaster ride. Focusing on routines, on the other hand, is much more fruitful.
6. Apply deadlines as much as possible: You have been conditioned by society to respond to deadlines since you were a child. So take advantage of this inborn conditioning and use deadlines on yourself. Even better, you will be forced to focus only on the most important elements.
Motivation is usually what makes or breaks a person’s progress. So make sure you take action here sooner rather than later!

Why I Don’t Enjoy Dodgeball

I understand a lot of things in this world. One thing that I just do not understand, though, is dodgeball. How is dodgeball fun? It consists of kids pelting each other with hard balls! I don’t know why this is a game, to me it is a publicly endorsed form of violence.
When I was a kid, I used to have to play dodgeball. We’d go out for recess and hit the playground, and then the gym teachers would encourage us to make a circle. They had their own form of dodgeball, with the few new kids ushered into the center of the circle of all the rest of the kids.
The kids in the center would have to try to keep from being hit as long as they could, while their classmates tried to hit them time after time after time from all directions. The first time I had to be in the middle, I got hit right in the face. Not only did I get hit in the face, but it was from what seemed like point blank distance by a ball that was still speeding up by the time it had hit me. I wouldn’t exactly call this ball a soft one either, and I can assure you that a full grown adult would experience some degree of pain being hit in the face like this.
It hit me so hard, in fact, that it knocked me out. I fell down and was out for two minutes. When I woke up I started crying; it hurt a whole lot. I still felt my face throbbing a day later and I had a bruise that served as a sore reminder.
I can’t figure out where the benefit is. It’s not really a sport, it doesn’t teach anything but brutality.
Kids learn to try to stay alive while being attacked by their peers. Is this really the type of thing that we want children to be learning while in school?
When I remember back to my own dodgeball games I am amazed that schools let this activity continue. There are other things to do that teach constructive things to kids like how to be a good sport and how to work as a team. Why encourage a game that only tells kids to be brutal to each other?
I truly cannot think of any benefit that can possibly come from dodgeball. I’m so glad that I won’t ever have to take a gym class ever again.

Correcting Zinc Deficiency Improves Depression

The study participants were given 7 milligrams of zinc.
The multivitamins were given to prevent other vitamin deficiencies. They provided half of the recommended dietary allowances of vitamins A, D, B1, B2, B6, B12, folic acid and niacin by the Japanese government.
Upon the study’s completion, only the women taking zinc demonstrated reductions in depression and anger. Their zinc blood levels also increased significantly.
Interestingly, animal studies have found that only zinc deficient female animals experienced increased aggression. This new research appears to support the anger reducing impact in women proceeding zinc supplements noted the researchers, as well as the preceding research studies’ findings.
“Our results suggest that zinc supplementation may be effective in reducing anger and depression,” the researchers noted.
This study was reported in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition. “Although our findings are preliminary and should be interpreted with caution, they may prompt further investigations to evaluate the relationship between zinc nutrition and mood states, in women.

Put some time aside for yourself to have a good read. This will really give you something to concentrate on and you will also learn new and interesting things.
We all need our friends; so don’t make the mistake of cutting them out of your life when you need the most. Give them a ring for a chat and get some things of your chest, talking is great therapy.
Make some time to spend with an adult in their 70′s and a pre-school age child. The wisdom and reminisces of the older person will help you greatly, while the innocence of the child will fill you with joy.
