Tips To Succeed When Working With A Personal Trainer

As a personal trainer for 10 years, I have worked with clients as infrequently as once a month and as frequently as 6 times a week. A good rule of thumb is the less experience and knowledge you have about exercise, the more necessary it is to meet frequently especially in the beginning. Maybe you have been working out a long time but you still need that accountability so one weekly appointment is enough. Some people are motivated to workout on their own and just want to ‘check-in’ once a month to get some new material. There is no right answer because it depends on your particular needs and wants. Below are my recommendations:

If you are totally new to exercise, schedule 2 or 3 appointments a week for at least 3 weeks. The beginning of a new attempt to start exercising is a critical time. Most people fall off in the first month due to injury or lack of motivation. Think of all of the people who make new years resolutions to get in shape. You know as well as I know that the odds are not with them that it will last. If this sounds familiar, you have to break the pattern!

If falling off your exercise schedule is a pattern for you then I suggest having once or twice weekly appointments with your trainer indefinitely. Here’s why: An appointment with your trainer once a week makes you accountable and that’s good. I have clients that I’ve worked with once or twice a week for 9 years and counting! Before they started working with me, their exercise came in waves. Not now. I keep them on track. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had clients say to me “I never would have worked out today if we didn’t have this appointment.” Be honest with yourself, there’s no shame in admitting that you just won’t do it on your own but then do something about it. Trainers understand.

Lots of people know what to do at the gym but they can’t seem to get to the gym. If you know you have a hard time making it happen I suggest maintaining a weekly appointment with a trainer. So often my clients will say to me “I never would have come today if we didn’t have this appointment.” Accountability is a perfectly fine reason to have a trainer. Keeping that appointment on the calendar ensures that weeks and months aren’t going to go by without working out. It’s easy to blow off a workout we schedule with ourselves it’s a lot harder to blow off a workout scheduled with you trainer.

Of course when you’re trying to figure out how often to see a trainer budget is going to come up. The two of you can talk about what you have to spend and they will help you to get the most out of your money. It’s the trainer’s job to assess the situation and make suggestions about what they think will be helpful. The two of you can then decide together how you will move forward.

Remember that the frequency of your training is not set in stone. Sometimes it may be more frequently, other times less frequently depending on what’s going on in your life. Your trainer will always work with you to do what is appropriate at any given time. If you’re lucky enough to have a trainer that you really enjoy and that’s helping you to get the results you want, they’re probably going to be in your life for a long time!

Best Butt Workout – 4 Secrets For A Beautiful Butt

August 1, 2010 by

Is your butt too large or too small? Is it droopy or saggy? What are your going to do about it? You will need the best butt workout program available.

In any case, you’re going to have to work the FULL set of muscles in your backside.

Secret Number 1: Do You Know your butt?

The best butt workout requires that you know what you’re dealing with. Your buttocks consist of three major muscles. The most famous of these is, of course, the gluteus maximus. Secondly, there’s the gluteus medius. And last is the gluteus minimus.

Secret Number 2: You can’t work just the easy ones…

Working just your glutes won’t cut it. You will have to work the complementary muscles, too. Huh? Well, think about it this way. When you work your arms, you work both the biceps AND the triceps. When you work your legs, you develop your hamstrings along with the quadriceps.

Secret Number 3: You have to work all of them…

Maybe in the past you’ve had a smug feeling because you did a few squats, felt “the burn” in your gluteus maximus, and decided that you had done your work. Nope. Sorry. You have to work ALL the glutes — in order. And you have to push them harder than before. (Really. I mean, if you had been working them correctly, you’d have the perfect butt, right?)

Secret Number 4: You’re not the same as everyone else…

I doubt that your butt is an exact copy of the woman next to you. Your hips may be bigger or they may be smaller. Even if the “tale of the tape” is the same, I’ll bet that the shape of yours doesn’t match hers. My question then is, “Why would you do the same number of reps and sets that she does?” You may be able to do more. If so, DO THEM. Don’t stop just because she does.

On the other hand, you may not be able to do as many reps. Don’t kill yourself trying. It will be counter-productive to use the woman next to you as your guide. Work every day at being better than you were yesterday. After all, the goal is for you to have the perfect butt for you.

To have the best butt, workout every day. Even so, exercise is only part of the overall answer. We’ll talk about other pieces in future articles.

Jenny K. Gleason has written an excellent 54-page ebook Wellness, Fitness and You to complement these workout secrets. Get your complimentary copy at Brazil Butt Lift Workout. For more information on achieving the perfect posterior, you can learn more at Best Butt Workout.

Getting fit is never easy! The key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and losing dangerous extra pounds is to follow a regular exercise schedule.

We all know that maintaining a regular exercise routine is one of the keys to losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, too many of us become exercise dropouts.

You know what an exercise dropout is: It’s someone who starts a new exercise plan with the best intentions, follows it religiously for a week or two and then gets bored. The person drops out of his or her exercise plan.

The reasons for this are many. Let’s face it; exercising isn’t fun for most people. It’s hard work. And it requires a serious time commitment. It’s no wonder that so many people quickly become exercise dropouts.

How do you avoid becoming an exercise dropout? There are several keys to this.

First, don’t tackle an exercise routine that is too advanced for your skill level. If you haven’t exercised regularly in years, start slowly and build up endurance. If your routine is too difficult, you’ll get frustrated and quite.

Secondly, vary your routine. Don’t do the same exercises every day. Mix things up. Perhaps on one day you can take a long walk. The next day you might try aerobics or a vigorous bike ride. You might try calisthenics and free weights the next.

If possible, don’t workout alone. Having a partner or group to exercise with makes it far harder to become an exercise dropout. Your other workout partners will provide the encouragement you need to stay focused.

If you do follow these simple steps, the odds are high that you can avoid becoming yet one more exercise dropout.

Negative Calorie Food: The Dietary Substitute For Exercise.

Ever heard of foodstuffs that can help you to burn out excess fats in your system? Well such foods exist and these foods are known as negative calorie food. Gaining weight is an issue that a lot of people have to deal with at least once in their lives. For the most part you will be caught up in dieting regimes that forbid the intake of food as if it were a sin to eat. But losing weight has never been this simpler. The discovery of this food quality has helped a lot of people come up with a healthy solution to weight problems.

Foods that possess negative calories are in abundance in our raw environment. Grapefruits are one source of negative calories. The acidic nature of grapefruits and citrus fruits is what helps to burn the fat. Other foods that have this component are lemons; lettuce; oranges; tomatoes; watermelons; pumpkins; peaches and papaya. But these aren\’t the only ones; most green vegetables contain negative calories.

Knowing the way negative calories functions helps you to know what actually happens when you consume them. Grapefruits; lemons and naartjies have acid in them. It is this acidic component that is important when it comes to metabolism and the digestion of food. The breakdown of fats is quicker when there are sufficient acids in the system.

Vegetables that possess negative calories are cabbage; lettuce and broccoli. Now, these foods are fibrous and they have a lot of fibre in them. So the reason why these are good when it comes to dieting is that they take long to digest. If they take long to digest that means they require more energy to digest and it is this quality that makes them bur out fats. They also give the feeling of being full, something that will inevitably make you eat way less than usual.

Negative calorie foods shouldn\’t just be eaten carelessly. The fact that these foods can burn out more fat than they possess shouldn\’t be a reason for you to incorporate them recklessly. Eat negative calorie food in their fresh state. If you\’re going to have cabbage I would suggest you eat it raw as part of a salad. You need not add anything like salt or salad dressing because doing so will weaken their effectiveness.

A balanced diet is key to reaping the most benefits from negative calorie food. Don\’t just eat negative calories alone because you really want to lose weight. Eat other foodstuffs as well and don\’t neglect proteins; carbohydrates and vitamins. Eating a lot of these negative calories doesn\’t exactly mean you will lose weight faster.

Negative calorie foods are good for a person who is trying to lose weight but these foods shouldn\’t be taken in excess. Don\’t forget that your body still needs calories regardless of the fact that they can be harmful if in excess. Take in calorie containing foods so that your body\’s natural metabolism is supported with no neglect.

If you\’re investing in negative calorie food as a means to lose weight I suggest that you exercise as well. There is a common myth that these foods are enough to keep your body in shape. But that\’s not the truth. You will have to exercise often to reap the most benefit from a negative calorie diet.

And if you want to know more about a negative calorie diet dishes, please take a look at my blog, or have a look at this article about the spin off cabbage soup diet.

How To Use A Pedometer

December 10, 2009 by

Pedometers can be great fitness devices that can integrate themselves into practically any life, providing powerful ways to track and measure our casual daily exercise. While formerly based on simple mechanical principles, today\’s pedometers are digital gadgets packed with a variety of features. If you\’re curious about what benefits a step counter can offer, or what features to search for, read on for a brief overview.

While many of us know that we should exercise, making time for fitness during increasingly busy lives is challenging. Even so, sometimes we do a large amount of passive exercise daily, and with a bit of creativity, we could come up with ways to do just a bit more. One way to take exercise more seriously can be to measure the work we do, both as a means of evaluating current fitness and of setting goals for which to strive.

One benefit of a pedometer is it can make going to the gym for an hour or jogging sometimes unnecessary. Instead, you can utilize the exercise you get throughout the day with the help of a step counter. You can measure how much you walk and use the unit throughout your daily activities to make the most out of your daily routine.

Prior to the availability of the more accurate digital devices with all their features, pedometers worked on very simple mechanical principles. These units were often inaccurate, classifying every little move as a step, so that it was almost better to not use one at all.

Even so, they should be used correctly in order to provide the highest accuracy. They can be worn throughout the day, so as to capture even the small movements that you may think incidental. After all, small steps add up gradually over time.

To measure distance walked a pedometer must also be calibrated before use. In order to accurately measure distance traveled, the pedometer must first learn how long each of your strides typically is. Instructions for this process vary and should be provided with most units.

There are devices on the market that you may want to be aware of which offer pedometer-like functions among many other things. Devices like phones can have a step counter added on as an extra feature which may at the time sound like fun. The problem may be though that little thought was given to how accurate the step counting feature should be. Usually, a step counter that is dedicated to the task at hand functions most accurately.

Pedometer technology continues to advance as they become better integrated into our fitness regimens. Next generation units can even integrate with web applications, storing records for later viewing and providing additional services. Some can even track other statistics such as caloric intake.

Some fitness experts recommend a casual exercise routine of 10,000 steps per day. Such a workout can achieve a great deal, possibly helping you to lose weight, lower blood pressure and gain strength. While this may seem like quite a few steps, you may be surprised at just how many you are already taking. A step counting device can help you to not only realize how much you already do, but also help to determine ways of gradually increasing the amount until your goal has been achieved.

Darrin Tebbe of Bodytronics is pleased to offer a wide selection of omron walking pedometers and also enjoys helping customers find an omron fitness pedometer to meet their needs.
