Young Men Should Be Alert To Hair Loss

The majority of American men will be aware of some hair loss by the age of 35. By age 50, nearly 85% of men will have experienced thinning hair. A quarter of the men who experience this loss begin before they reach the age of 21. And 95% of this hair loss is male pattern baldness.
Male pattern baldness interferes with numerous sectors of a man’s life. It can change relationships and professional life. Sometimes men change their careers as a result. Most men who have it are not very happy about it and many would resort to just about any remedy to change it.
Almost every hair loss remedy on the market is about as effective as Dr. Jones’ Medicine Show snake oil. Perhaps you’ve seen the infomercials on late night TV. Or the radio ads, guaranteed or your money back. Or the ads in magazines for men, promising hair growth that will attract a bevy of ladies. The ads are very common.
There are also a myriad of false reasons bandied about concerning why hair loss occurs. Anxiety? No. Wearing a cap (even sleeping in a cap)? No. Nutritional insufficiency? No. Wearing a ponytail? No. Excess sweating? No. Androgenic Alopecia or male pattern hair loss occurs for two reasons – decreasing androgens (male hormones) and genetic predilection.
Genetic predisposition cannot be changed, but if a loss of hormone production causes the condition, would it not make sense to replace the lost hormones? That would be a workable solution to hair loss.
Andropause in men is the name for what women call menopause. Besides hair loss, there are other symptoms as the hormones (androgens) decrease in proportion to age. Loss of libido, decreased muscle mass and strength, low energy, insomnia, nervousness and depression can also be symptoms. Muscle mass decreases and body fat increases.
Men can benefit from bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, just as women do. (Note: Bio-identical is an important word – it means the replacement hormones are not synthetic, but are identical to the hormones produced by the human body.) Optimal health is dependent upon the balance of hormones and not just one single hormone. Currently men with low androgens (male hormones) can benefit from the hormone replacement therapy. The therapy definitely improves quality of life and increases life span.
The first step in seeking hormone replacement therapy would be to see a doctor who specializes in this therapy, and have medical tests done to determine what hormones need to be replaced and in what amount. One can not only slow or stop hair loss with this therapy, but also prevent heart attacks, lower blood pressure, slow the loss of muscle mass, keep the prostate gland healthy and raise libido, to name a few benefits. One can start at any age, but the younger one begins the more benefits result, slowing and in some cases reversing the ravages of time.
