Carbohydrates are not a single culprit of weight gain. Weight gain happens when we eat more calories than we are burning, not simply because we ate carbs. While some people have lost large amounts of weight by adopting low car diets, this may not be true for everyone.

We need some carbs, as these are used by the body as a very important energy source. Avoiding all carbs may cause a lack of energy.

If you have tried these diets in the past, ask yourself if you initially became tired easily, or became jumpy. This was probably your body telling you that it needed carbs for energy.

Very disciplined people are often able to get past this phase, and when the body starts using the stored fat for energy, they do lose weight. But for many people, this can be a temporary loss. As they start to each carbs again, many low carb dieters put the weight back on.

Not all carbs are bad, so be sure to learn as much as you can before pursuing any restrictive diet plan. Carbs with a low index of glycemic, such as whole wheat bread and brown rice, are treated very differently by the body than other carbs.

Good carbs are processed slowly by the body, so they make a more stable source of energy. It is the bad carbs, such as white rice and white bread, that should be avoided or eaten sparingly.

Bad carbs provide an instant jolt of energy followed by a crash. Eating the right carbs is not only good for the body, but is much easier to stick with than removing carbs entirely.

You’ll want to exercise more than you were when you put on the weight, so daily chores are not likely to be enough. By increasing your physical exercise every day, it will be much easier for you to burn more calories than you consume.

Now that you understand that you must burn more calories than you consume, you’ll want to consume less calories than you normally do without starving yourself. Start by reading the nutritional labels on the foods you purchase. This will help you to identify which foods should be eliminated or eaten in moderation.

Don’t skip breakfast – just be sure to eat a healthy breakfast. Avoid junk food and make a few changes throughout the day, such as cutting down on butter, soda, or dressings. You will save more calories than you may realize!

Be sure you are drinking plenty of water. Water not only helps you to feel full, but actually flushes toxins from your system. This improves your metabolism which will increase how fast your body burns calories.

Drinking water instead of sugary drinks will also remove additional calories from your day.
