Learning How Nutrition Testing Works

October 31, 2010 by

The value of nutrition testing is becoming more obvious these days as people are beginning to understand that each person has different requirements when it comes to nutrition. Do-it-yourself kits are available for people to assess the level of their health. Testing on blood, feces and hair is now possible.

These kits let the testing of vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Testing of levels of fatty acids and Q10 are also possible with these testing kits. Testing of Phytonutrients and enzyme intermediates can also be done. This helps to make people become aware of their cholesterol readings. The ratios among certain nutrients will give an indication of usage patterns. The result is that people are able to detect metabolic problems, allergies and diseases.

As people are unique it is important to know that everyone has different requirements when it comes to minerals and vitamins. The information that these tests give can be helpful to show what nutrients are lacking in the diet. People are able to live free of disease by living a clean and healthy life. Sports people are able to do better by getting to understand their nutritional requirements better.

For years, everything has been tested. Every product on the shelves in the supermarkets is tested and labels bear the results. Fresh produce is tested from the soil to the shelf. Therefore, it only makes sense that human beings should be tested too.

It is not wise to adopt a one-size-fits-all approach with regards to nutritional requirements. Daily values and recommended daily allowances are not the beginning and end of nutritional requirements. Each person’s requirements are unique and special. There is no one supplement that will supply everyone with what is needed to function optimally.

Often times, people will experience deficiency symptoms and buy over the counter supplements to supplement that particular vitamin or mineral. But sometimes, these symptoms may not have a direct correlation to specific deficiencies. Nutrition testing can point to both toxic and nutritional disorders and provide helpful information for wise, professional supplementation.

People most likely to benefit from nutrition testing are sports people and people who are ill. Someone who is qualified to conduct such tests should carry them out. Some of these are similar to the process of acupuncture. Acupuncture has been used for centuries to heal sick people and to ease certain aches and pains.

Once A Month Cooking For Tasty, Economical Meals

October 31, 2010 by

You might like cooking but do you really enjoy having to do it every single evening? If you have family responsibilities and lots of commitments, having to think about what to make every day can be stressful, especially if you do not have much time to cook.

The best way around this is to do your cooking once a week or once a month, divide the meals into portions and freeze them. Freezer cooking, or once a month (or week) cooking means that you can spend one day doing the cooking for the rest of the month and not have to cook for the other twenty nine days. Does that not sound like an appealing way of feeding your family?

The Best Meals to Cook in Bulk

There are all kind of meals, which freeze well, and they will taste just as nice when they are thawed as when you first made them. Cooking big batches of food is a real timesaver and if you have a busy weeknight coming up, you can simply thaw your family’s evening meal in the refrigerator overnight and it will be ready to warm through in the evening.

You can often get great discounts when you buy in bulk. A big package of boneless chicken pieces, for example, works out cheaper per pound than buying a pair of chicken thighs or chicken breasts. Perhaps you spot some ground lamb on special offer one week or turkey another week.

There are freezer recipes for all kinds of meats, poultry, and fish. Meat and poultry in sauces and soups keep for up to six months. You might want to make some tasty family favorites like chicken curry or beef stew. Beef bourguignon, chicken tacos, and beef lasagna are other freezer cooking ideas.

Freezer Cooking Tips

Pick a day when you will not have many commitments or interruptions. Make sure there is enough space in your freezer and make sure you have all your necessary ingredients ready. Remember too that you can save time buying other frozen foods on special offer like precooked meatballs or cooked shrimp. Simply add these to your thawed meals to liven them up.

You can either cook one type of meal at a time or, if you are more experienced in the kitchen, cook various dishes at once. When your food is cool, you can put it in the freezer. Wipe the edges of your plastic containers or freezer bags before freezing them. Store the food flat, in zipper food storage bags, and you will find that even a small freezer is capable of holding two week’s worth of entrees.

You will need plenty of freezer bags, aluminum foil and plastic wrap or plastic food containers. A marker pen for labeling the food is a good idea too and it is important to write what the meal is and the date you made it, as well as the cooking instructions and whether you need to add anything else to it.

Sometimes you can make a creamy dish but cream does not freeze well so leave it out of the meal and add it when you reheat it. Potatoes do not always thaw well either, so you can either use slightly undercooked barley or pasta as a replacement or add fresh potatoes when you reheat the dish.

What You Need To Know About The HCG Diet Plan

October 30, 2010 by

Many people think that the HCG diet plan is the newest thing to come around. The thing is that it is nothing new since HCG has been given to obese children since as early as 1920 for the treatment of conditions like Frolich’s syndrome. Frolich’s syndrome caused obesity and a slowed growth of the genitalia in children.

HCG was administered to children with the disorder to help with normal genitalia growth but it also ended up helping with weight loss. This prompted Dr Simeon to try the medication on patients that only had an obesity problem. What was learned is that the patients could lose a lot of inches even if they did not lose a lot of weight.

There have been a lot of things that have been learned about how HCG and one of these is that the fat is going to convert the fat to healthy fat rather than unhealthy fat. However the doctor studied restricted calorie diets that women are on in other countries while they are pregnant and still able to carry healthy babies and when he experimented with them he saw dramatic weight loss in patients. So he began to offer this as an additional option to the HCG treatment and saw that weight loss occurred and that the patients were able to keep the weight off for long periods of time.

Dr Simeon provided a number of different things in his diet but the hard part that people find today is that it is such a strict diet. While you are on the HCG injections you are only supposed to be eating around five hundred calories each day. Now if you have ever studied nutrition and healthy eating you might not think that this is possibly a way that you are going to be able to be healthy.

Many benefits exist with the diet especially since you do not have to eat a restricted diet for long. There is also nothing hard or tricky to learn so it is a diet that could be for everyone. People who love coffee will find that they can even drink as much coffee as they want on the plan.

If hunger is something that you worry about then this would be a good plan for you as most people do not complain of hunger. Plus if you decide that sticking to the diet is not what you want you can still see dramatic results but they will see inches lost. So if you want to see weight loss that is dramatic you need to make sure that you follow the plan.

So if you are interested in the HCG diet plan then you should definitely talk to your medical doctor and see if it is right for you. HCG can be administered in different forms but the most effective in clinical tests are the injections. However if you are not the type of person who could give yourself injections then the medication is also available in a spray or as drops.

How To Make Wonderful Strawberry Jam At Home

October 24, 2010 by

You might be able to buy strawberry jam or strawberry jelly economically and easily from your local grocery store but making your own strawberry jam is well worth doing. Not only does homemade taste much nicer but you can control the ingredients, making it as sweet as you like or adding other fruits.

Perhaps you would like to make a strawberry and blackberry or apple and strawberry combination. Strawberry jam recipes vary and some call for butter, lemon juice and other ingredients. Other strawberry jam recipes simply call for strawberries and sugar. The following tips should help you, whichever strawberry jam recipe you follow.

Tips for Making Strawberry Jam

It is a good idea to prepare your strawberries the day before you make the jam. Throw away any bruised or overripe berries and trim away any soft spots. Hull and halve them, then mix them with sugar and cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Leave them in the refrigerator overnight.

Sterilize the jars by washing them in soapy water, then rinsing them well. Let them drip dry upside down on a rack in a 275 degrees F oven for about thirty minutes. Leave them there until your jam is cooked and ready to fill the jars.

When you are making a jam recipe, you can check if the cooking mixture has reached its setting point by putting a drop on a cold plate from the freezer. Push it with your finger after two or three seconds. If it wrinkles, it is ready. If it still has a very liquid consistency, cook it a bit longer.

When the jam is at its setting point, remove it from the flame and let it cool down for at least ten minutes, else the strawberries will all sink to the bottom of the jars.

Use clean gloves or an implement to handle the jars, so you do not transfer any bacteria from your fingers inside them and use a funnel to transfer the jam from the pan to the jar.

Cover each jar with a big waxed paper disk and push it down to form a seal. Put the lids on the jars while the jam inside is still warm. You can keep it in a dark, cool cupboard for up to a year.

Using Jello in Jam Recipes

Jello is not just for making jello cake recipes and fruity jello desserts. It is also a wonderful addition to strawberry jam and you can make a beautiful strawberry jam recipe using strawberry jello for sweetness, flavor and texture.

You can use your favorite flavor of jello and combine the fruit flavors with the jello flavors. You might like to make strawberry jam with strawberry jello but you can also try blackberry with pineapple jello or chopped green tomato preserves with raspberry jello for a more unusual flavor.

Jello is one of the most versatile ingredients you can use. You can eat it by itself, add fruit, and make it into a salad, a dessert or a treat. Kids love it, and for many of us, it is rather nostalgic. Try some jello recipes and see how your family enjoys it.

The way that society is today, everything is based upon your looks. However, there is way more to being healthy than just appearing to be healthy on the outside. What is going on, on the inside is way more telling about a persons nutritional life than how they appear on the outside. The only true method to finding out how healthy a person truly is is through taking a nutrition testing.

The idea behind nutrition testing is to help an individual figure out what their exact nutritional status is. Nutrition testing helps to show a person if their diet and the supplements that they are taking are working properly with their body. Nutrition tests can be done through a lab or through answering questions.

There are two main options that are available to have nutrition testing completed. The first method involves taking a blood and or urine test. Both tests are the best option so that the results can be compared with one another.

The other method available is taking a quiz online or through written means. Though the results provided through this method do not accurately depict what is truly going on it does provide a quick answers without having to leave your home. This method usually is compiled of yes or no questions regarding symptoms that you may be experiencing.

If your test was done in the written manner your results will most likely be done right away. The tests that were taken in the lab will take longer to get back. No matter which way you chose to go your results will be a valuable asset to taking your health to the next level.

Each of these options will provide you with options about which nutrients your body still needs more of. Knowing this information can help you to change your diet to incorporate more of what your body needs. This also helps you to see which minerals, nutrients or vitamins your body is receiving an excess of, if any.

No matter which ever method of testing your nutritional health is chosen you will be able to have a better understanding of what areas you need to change to achieve ultimate health. Without knowing this information you could continually be doing your body harm. Nutritional testing is the only way to make sure that you are as healthy as you possibly can be.

Appetizers For Every Occasion

Appetizers are small finger foods that are normally served at parties or before a more formal meal. You may find them at weddings, baby showers, and banquets. Appetizers help people take the edge off of their hunger and help them relax. It is always easier to relax when you can enjoy some refreshments.

For parties that last long into the night, they are a nice way to keep your guests happy and busy. You can also serve them for afternoon parties like birthdays or teas. Old fashioned tea parties always served tiny sandwiches or cookies. They are perfect whenever your guests are drinking alcoholic beverages. Food helps prevent all the alcohol from being absorbed by the body. They are also a traditional choice before a meal begins.

Almost anything can be served as appetizers. You may like simple cheese and crackers. Setting out platters containing small cubes of a variety of cheeses is always enjoyable fare. Another really simple thing is chopped vegetables, also known as crudits. These are most frequently served with a dip. You can also serve sliced fruit in this manner. Finger sandwiches, also known as canaps are another simple appetizer.

If you want to spend a little more preparation time, you can make easy appetizers like stuffed mushrooms, shrimp, or crab puffs. These delicacies are wonderful and easy to eat with just a napkin. You should be cautious about ingredients however, especially if you have guests with food allergies. Common food allergies include peanuts and shellfish. If you are not sure, you can always ask your guests if they have any special dietary requirements. Any dishes that contain these items should be labeled so guests can avoid them if needed.

It is common to serve both hot and cold appetizers. Both are equally appropriate for most occasions. Hot food is better at satisfying hungry guests, so consider this if your guests have been actively dancing or doing other activities that would cause them to need to eat.

Some of the fun with appetizers is coming up with inventive methods to present them. Bacon wrapped shrimp, for example, can be served by putting each individual shrimp onto a small fork and setting them so they stand up for easy access. Your guests can help themselves and eat their bite easily. Lots of different appetizers can be served this way or in spoons. A spoonful of coconut chicken is delightful.

Of course, holiday appetizer recipes will help make your holiday celebrations seem more festive. Small foods to nibble always put everyone in a happy mood. Add some to your menu and watch the reactions of your family and friends.

Use all the creativity and imagination you want when planning for appetizers. They are fun to make and fun to eat. Serve them, as snacks when you are testing recipes… those that everyone likes will be the perfect additions to your next party.

Seafood appetizers hold a special place on the table. Everyone always seems to make a beeline to anything containing shrimp or crab. If it is creamy as well, you’ve got a surefire hit. Try crab puffs, shrimp cocktail or crab dip. All of these appetizers will become favorites with your guests.

Home is where the heart is but is your home missing something? Maybe what your home really needs is a little design here and there and something really classic to enhance the entire decor. If your home has the same lighting, bulbs and candle stands then how is it really different from any other home? Did you know that natural light is more relaxing than the artificial luminescence? If you didn’t know this then this is the best time to bring some change. Add some magic into your home and brighten up the decor using some of the oldest methods of lighting – bring home the Moroccan Lanterns!

You are probably wondering how a lantern can change the ambiance of your home. A lantern will provide a rustic look to your home. You can hang it anywhere but will look great in your living room as well as on the garden porch. Imagine having a dinner on the porch brightened by the subtle magnificence of the Moroccan Lantern. You need to experience it to feel the impact!

Let’s take a look at Moroccan lanterns and why they are preferred to ordinary lanterns. Moroccan lighting has been a unique home decoration concept for a long time and there are reasons for the same. Moroccan decor is not something that you will find easily in US homes as it doesn’t have a deep reach. If you find a home with Moroccan decor then be rest assured that either they have traveled to Morocco to find it or they have found it through specialists like us. Moroccan Decor is rare but its uniqueness comes from the fact that it has influences of Moroccan history, culture and art. Moroccan lighting is also a part of the same influence and brings with it the geometric forms, vivid colors, and exotic designs, which have long been the symbol of Moroccan decor.

One of the exotic Moroccan lanterns also known as the henna lamps is made from stretched goat skin and is decorated with exquisite designs. The designs are all hand painted and based on traditional henna designs. Some of the designs are also dyed with paprika or saffron based dyes and is the ultimate decoration piece for your living room. It will add an earthy touch and bring in the rustic feel to your living room or any where in your house where place it. The henna sconce is also used without lighting but these are meant to be stand alone decorative wall pieces.

Another Moroccan decoration that you can try is the stained glass lamp that comes with carved motives and definitely makes a bolder statement as far as designing your interiors is concerned. The Stained glass lamps are one of its kinds and will add spice to the overall interior decoration of your house. Moroccan lamps are also known as Moroccan lanterns and can be added to an existing wrought iron chandelier to bring a warmth and delightfully appealing freshness to your home.

With Moroccan lighting, you can get your true creative spirit working and use them to recreate a truly exotic Moroccan oasis.

Using Moroccan lighting

You can try and use various types of wattage to get different looks in terms of design and brightness. You can also experiment a little and use a candle especially if you are using the Moroccan lantern in a small space. While using henna lamps or henna wall sconces, you can try a low wattage to get the right ambiance – it will provide a very romantic feel.

Maintenance of your Moroccan lighting
When it comes to the maintenance of Moroccan lighting then you can feel good about the fact that the maintenance cost is as good as zero. Another salient point is that unlike tubes and bulbs or even candles, the Moroccan lanterns can last for almost a lifetime. The only maintenance required involves lubrication of the side door hinges. This lubrication can be done once in a while or during the rainy season. If you choose the henna lamps or the henna wall sconce then they don’t require any maintenance at all.

You will have to also spray the Moroccan lanterns with a sealant, which will prevent gathering of rust. The other way is to use sealant on each and every metal part and for this you will have to take the glass of first. Either ways, the use of sealant will increase the longetivity of the lanterns and provide you with enough luminance to last a lifetime.

Moroccan Decor: Give Your Home A Marrakech Zip Code

Decor and architecture magazines often trigger the dreamer in us, the dream of having their own home and probably you are living that dream. Along with the dream comes many things like renovating the home, brightening the interiors, new paint, decorations, wall pieces, show pieces, chandeliers etc… But sometimes, people also end up using so much decoration that it takes away the charm of living in that house. But on the other hand, you can experiment with earthen decors and subtle interior decoration or art to instill a new life into your home. One of doing is by introducing themes based on colors and the other is to use themes based on countries like using the Moroccan decor.

You would probably ask what is so great about Moroccan decor. There is a subtlety in Moroccan decor and it is very earthy in nature. The important point is that if you want your home to stand out of the crowd then you need to think different. Everyone uses the same decors, almost the same ceramic tiles, the aqua colors on the walls and even the ever so popular and classic wrought iron decorative pieces. But if you use Moroccan decor, you are definitely going to create a stir and your friends and neighbors are going to ask you questions about how you went around doing it all. It is not just about decorating the interiors of your home; it is also about creating your own class and being a part of an elite crowd in the society.

Let’s take a few steps back in time to know more about a country that has made its impact in the worldwide interior decoration market with their artistic themes. Morocco in North Africa has a rich cultural and historical heritage that exudes beauty through various forms of art, which are often seen as mysterious or magical. Moroccan decor in the last couple of years has been re-discovered and today it is used to add a sensual appeal through art and colors to homes.

If you have visited Morocco then you have had the opportunity to enjoy the rich cultural heritage that it boasts of. If you have never been to Morocco then you can become an integral part of the country, the people and the art through understanding and using Moroccan decor. Moroccan culture was a mix of five ethnic groups, Arab, Berber, Islamic, African and Iberian and their heritage has survived the harsh destruction of time because till around the 20th century, the land was free from foreign invasion. Around the early 1900′s, Moroccan culture was influenced immensely by various characteristics of the European cultures but in spite of the influence, Morocco was able to keep its tradition, art & culture alive. Some instances are like the existence of the traditional Moroccan house with a garden in the interior, which is known as Riad and it has not changed for almost five centuries.

The Moroccan style and decor is spectacular in looks and sensuous in appeal and has been there was centuries. The intense colors of the Moroccan style cast a magic spell on anyone who uses it and even on those who see it. Most of the Moroccan decor is created from a mix of raw terracotta clay, and the color can vary from the passionate red of the paprika spice to the intense blue of the Mediterranean and the shimmering yellow of the Sahara. You can almost feel the decor as if it were alive!

In fact one of the spectacular Moroccan decor is created with an intense blue as is there at Jardin Majorelle located in the Avenue Yacoub el Mansour in Marrakech. You have to really see it to believe it but we warn you: you won’t be able to stop yourself from falling in love with the color. The blue is unique because no one has ever been able to copy it. But Moroccan decor is not just about vibrant colors, there more to it than meets the eye. You can use Moroccan lighting with different designs and patterns that has a subtle touch of Moroccan and Islamic architecture. The intricately designed filigree lanterns with colored glass inserts is a temptation you can hardly refuse and it exudes a class that has elegance. There are special Moroccan henna lamps that come in a hue of colors and can hold you spellbound for hours.
