Pain Killers And Laxative Usage

The class of compounds known as the opioids are a type of analgesic used to treat the symptoms of pain. They include the infamous morphine, and related agents like codeine and oxycodone. These chemical agents interact with a class of receptors on cells that are in nerve cells as well as those in the digestive tract.

Upon reaching their chemical target in the cells, the opioid compounds cause a reduction of pain. On top of that, they also cause a feeling of well-being or euphoria in certain subjects. Although they are good are inhibiting pain, they also cause side-effects.

For one thing, some people who take opioid-based medication have increased incidence of constipation that does not seem treatable by conventional fiber therapy, and in the worst cases, laxative therapy. The cause is unknown but is clearly linked to opioid use.

One of the pharmaceutical giants, Wyeth, and a collaborating firm Progenics, markets a drug under the name of Relistor that is intended for treating constipation caused by opioids. It is an injectable drug that is prescribed when patients no longer respond to normal laxatives.

For sufferers looking for natural treatments for constipation, there are a few options. A first tactic that even a primary care doctor may bring up is the increase of dietary fiber. A possible path to put into action this line of therapy is to emphasize fruits and vegetables with the most fiber content. Prunes are a good choice, contributing plenty of fiber but in addition sorbitol which seems synergistic with fiber.

There are patients who find the effort needed in targeting fiber-rich foods is too much. A way to fix this is to take a look at the available widespread fiber supplements. The supplements are labeled under names like metamucil and often come in crushed powdered forms of fiber sources like psyllium.

Offered Natural Remedies Regarding Acid Reflux Disease

It is funny the way the simplest of things can make a dramatic change in your life. I used to suffer with a lot of acid reflux and heartburn. Sometimes it felt as if I had a pile in my chest that was on fire.

Obviously I had gone thru the medical route and had been prescribed the usual mixture of antacid pills and liquids and proton pump inhibitors. I had roughly $20 worth of medication on my shelf ready.

Then as I was browsing the Net I stumbled on the alkaline nature of lemons. To me this sounded stupid ; lemons are acidic and could not potentially help. What I discovered was that lemons leave behind an alkaline residue in the body that his highly beneficial to those suffering from angina and acid reflux.

So I started filling up a jug of water and added chopped, fresh, unwaxed lemons to the water to infuse throughout the day. This I drank during the day together with lemon juice in hot water during the evenings.

The very first thing that I spotted was how refreshed I felt first thing in the morning if I drank this fresh lemon water first thing, instead of my usual tea or coffee. At night, especially in hot water, it was also much more relaxing as an end drink. I spotted my angina started to ease, the pain in my chest started to ease and my stomach generally started to feel a lot better. Obviously there were other contributing factors including cutting back on coffee and tea and making other dietary changes ; yet the refreshing and healing effect of lemon water was remarkable.

I did tell the advisor doctor about lemon juice and its alkalising effect on the body ; she hadn’t got any idea and just assumed that lemons were acidic : as did I.

So now I still have my medicines on the shelf ; all untouched. I no longer take anything. Glaringly one must go to their own medical pro first before stopping prescribed medications and one should seek advice before making any major dietary change ; For me though I have stopped buying antacids and stomach medicine and now buy bags of fresh, unwaxed lemons.

Nature is a really extraordinary thing ; it has available all that one could ever need for a healthful way of life.

Natural Colon Cleansing – It’s All The Rave

March 16, 2010 by

In spite of colon cleansing not being an attractive topic, the outcome that it brings is absolutely fabulous. This is one of the most underrated and worthwhile components to lose weight and a generally healthy lifestyle.

Your colon is connected to your digestive system and bowels, and it gets clogged with fecal matter. That means your poor stomach feels all kinds of ills. It gets distended, and you feel symptoms of constipation, diarrhea, bloating, irritable bowel syndrome, and all kinds of related ills.

It’s really easy to cleanse the colon, so let’s put down some ideas about how this works.

Colon cleansing is typically disregarded when it pertains to weight loss, shaping up the body, flattening the stomach, making digestion and elimination better, as well as bringing back health. The trouble is we can’t digest food appropriately and remove food and toxins we take in when the colon is blocked up.

When you’re clogged up like that, you may not think about it but you’re carrying around pounds of extra weight. You’re not able to have the two or three daily bowel movements that will assist your well-being so things just get worse. You also can’t absorb nutrients you take in.

Including natural colon cleansing mixed with a good weight reduction diet can assist you in slimming your waistline quicker and more thoroughly than any diet alone. A stomach that sticks out might not be only from fat; it might also come from toxin build up in your intestines. If the whole intestine tract is cleaned out, then the stomach usually becomes flat. The colon can work better as well, removing wastes faster, which does a lot to help with weight reduction and makes you more healthy.

Colon cleansing also can improve the absorption of nutrients and provides enough nutrition to the body. Hence, the craving for extra food is at least minimized if not eradicated. This way you can maintain a healthy diet and improve your health.

Many of the symptoms you take for granted such as headaches, nausea, rashes, and frequent fever could be due to too much build up of fecal matter. These problems can recur as you detox, but the detox will be well worth it. You’re just moving the bad stuff along your system and then out of it. Health matters will soon improve.
