Baseball Rules Explained

Baseball has long been known as America’s Pastime. However, you’d be amazed to be aware of exactly how some individuals do not understand how the game is normally performed. Well, today will probably be your lucky day because I am going to show you the rules of baseball.

The first thing you have to know regarding baseball is that the offense try’s to score “runs” on the defense. This is achieved as the pitcher tosses a baseball towards the catcher while an offensive competitor try’s to smack that baseball by using a bat ( to place the ball in play).

When the offensive game player actually does position the ball in play than the defense try’s to field the exact ball to get the ball player that hit the ball out. In order to help get the offensive participant out then the defense will have to toss the ball completely to another defensive participant that’s touching one of the three bases on the baseball diamond before the offensive participant will get there.

If the defense gets the ball in direction of the base before the offensive participant will get there then he is actually out. Inside the event the defense ceases to get the ball to the base leading up to when the offensive performer will arrive then he is addressed as safe. In cases when the player who arrived at the base is called safe. His mission is to try to touch the 3 bases and arrive at home plate. If he does this than the the offensive player just obtained one run.

Each individual team should get 9 innings to end the game with the highest run total. So, each team will take one-half inning to play offense and half an inning to play defense. If it turns out the score is actually tied following 9 innings than the game will probably be forced to go into extra innings.

This is certainly merely a brief breakdown of the guidelines of baseball. For anyone who is still puzzled and you genuinely wish to find out how the game is played then it might probably be in your greatest interest to go out and try trying to play the game your self. After all, the easiest method to study something would be to go about doing it first.

The Greatest Five Starting Pitchers In Baseball

We’re in the midst of a lull in the baseball world, as the World Series ended two months ago and it’s yet another few months before the new season begins.

With that in mind, there are lots of articles that I have written all about this game. Right now, I am going to talk about five pitchers who I think are currently some of the best ones in the sport of baseball right now.

Here are my top five as I see them. Feel free to agree or disagree, and I’d love to see you share your thoughts if you have a different opinion.

Coming in at #5 on my list is Zack Greinke, who definitely came away with the greatest season last year as a pitcher. If he can do that again during the next season and the season after that, then he is going to move up on my list for sure. When all is said and done, Greinke is going to go far in this sport, especially seeing what a dangerous pitcher he continues to be.

In the #4 spot is Roy Halladay, known for always being a very reliable pitcher. In the future, Halladay will no doubt be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Chris Carpenter has the #3 spot. Somehow he finds a way to always be fantastic in this sport. You would have thought that not playing for almost two seasons would have made him rusty, but, in fact, Carpenter actually pitched better than he ever has before.

Naturally, Johan Santana makes this list too. Even though he hasn’t won a Cy Young award since joining the Mets, there’s one thing that you can count on in Santana, and that’s a great season year in and year out. For this reason, Santana makes number two on my list.

The #1 spot on my list definitely goes to Tim Lincecum. He has dominated this sport for two years now and is without a doubt the pitcher who is best at getting strikeouts. WOW is the word that comes to mind when I think about Lincecum’s ERA in the twos!

Baseball Sees A Young Hero In Albert Pujols

The debate over who should be considered the best hitter in baseball is one that can be very long and drawn-out. More and more people, however, are beginning to claim that the title of the best hitter in our lifetimes belongs to Albert Pujols.

To simplify this discussion and keep it focused on the modern era, I’ll only be considering the players of the past 30 years of baseball.

It’s quite difficult to compare the performance of players from different eras. The playing conditions were very different in some ways, including the equipment and the fields. It would simply be unfair to compare a modern hitter to Willie Mays or Ted Williams, for instance.

Baseball has changed so much that we really can’t tell how a player would fare if he were transplanted in another era of the sport. There are, however, many good reasons why Albert Pujols should be considered one of the best hitters of our generation.

First, Pujols is young. He’s only 29 years old and he’ll likely continue to improve on his game, or at least maintain it. More importantly, he’s been consistent throughout his career. Examining some of his statistics will show us how.

Albert Pujols’ career batting average stands at .334. An average like that is usually enough to win the league. His numbers haven’t ever dipped far, either, with his lowest single-season average sitting at .312 in his second season. After that season, his lowest single-season average has been .327.

Pujols is also a consistent home-run hitter, with his lowest single-season home run tally at 32. He’s broken 40 homers in 5 of his 9 seasons. These are just a few of the impressive statistics in his career.

With every year that Pujols posts an impressive MLB season, it becomes more difficult to argue against his position as the leading hitter of the current baseball generation. When his career has ended, we may find ourselves referring to him as the best hitter that we’ve seen in our lifetimes.

Is Pujols The Consensus Most Consistent Modern Day Hitter?

Is Albert Pujols the best hitter that we’ve ever known? That is a question that has been asked hundreds of times, and the debate doesn’t look like it’s going to go away any time soon.

So that we all know who I’m talking about, I’m not going to go to players from days gone by, only from the 1980 onwards.

Going back even further doesn’t give a very fair debate, as the whole nature of the game was different; equipment and fields etc. Ok, Willie Mays and Ted Williams were great in their day; to compare them with Pujols is unfair to all three of them.

Would Albert Pujols have been so formidable in a different era? How would Ted Williams have played in today’s game? These questions are unanswerable, so let’s just look at what Pujols has going for him in the modern game.

To start with, there is a possibility he can still improve as he doesn’t hit 30 until his next birthday. His consistency has been second to none; few players can boast that they have turned out every week and played like Pujols has, let’s check out a few of his statistics.

When you consider that you have to go way back to find a low average of .312 in the second year of his career, and his lowest since has been .327, this really is a guy to be reckoned with.

Pujols is an MLB player and has now played 9 seasons in this league. During 5 of those he has hit 40 home runs. The lowest amount he has ever hit in a season is 32; this is an outstanding stat by anyone’s standards.

The stats speak for themselves, you can’t argue with the figures. Every season Pujols proves himself time and time again. No one can dispute he is a great hitter. He has a long career still ahead of him, and its hard to imagine that when he does retire, we won’t be considering our greatest batsman.

Big Name Free Agent News For The Offseason For Baseball Franchises

While we\’re in the midst of a lag between baseball seasons, there\’s been a considerable amount of action worth discussing. With a number of exciting names in the mix, this should come as no surprise.

What a team decides to do in between seasons can largely shape their success during the year to come. A perfect example of this would be the remarkable surge the Yankees made in 2009. A team that missed out on the playoffs the previous year was suddenly the best in all of the sport.

Any team that attracts some big names like Burnett, Texeira, and Sabathia stands to contend. This gave them two of the best pitchers and one of the best hitters in the majors.

How about this year? Are there any teams with makeovers in process that seem destined to rise in the ranks of franchises next year? Here are a few of the biggest signings through the first couple months of the winter season.

The Red Sox made a Yankee-like move this winter, signing perhaps the biggest pitching name in free agency. John Lackey is a big name pitcher with big game experience, having logged dozens of games for the Angels in the post season during his career.

Lackey has a dangerous mix of power and finesse, and has the endurance to last into the late innings of baseball games. This will be particularly valuable once the later parts of the season roll around.

One may be surprised by the fact that a competitive team like the Angels somehow let Lackey go. While this is obviously an unfortunate blow to the franchise, all is not lost. Having signed Hideki Matsui, the balance of power slightly shifts away from the Yankees and in favor of the Angels. The man who many credit with having won the World Series for New York will now be playing in Los Angeles.

Matsui\’s role as a fielder will be just as valuable to an Angels team that could stand to benefit from some more stellar defense. This helps to dampen the blow that they\’ll feel from the loss of their star pitcher.
