If you are looking for a massage chair, then finding relevant information regarding potential shiatsu chair candidates is important. Reviews and evaluations can point out the relevant aspects of each product. To assist potential purchaser researching massage chairs, we evaluate 5 key categories which include Warranty & Customer Service, Comfort/Ergonomics, Ease of Use, Features and Massage Therapy. Each category is worth up to 20 points. All points are added up to give a total score based on the 5 categories. A disciplined, systematic approach takes out bias and presents facts. We review the Luxury range of $4,000 to $5,000 and feature the Sanyo HEC-DR7700K massage chair.

First is how the manufacturer rates in both warranty coverage and customer service. The manufacturer needs to stand behind its product. Sanyo gives a 1 year labor, 1 year parts and 1 year in-home service as well as 1 year shipping. Panasonic puts a machine life cap of 1,000 hours of use. Sanyo gives a relatively short warranty which is on par with Panasonic but lower than most manufacturers. The electronics company’s such as Sanyo (or Panasonic) work off selling extended warranties. Sanyo now offers in-home technician service and may pay for shipping for the first year (not always clear). They have a national hot line with 24/7 service. Customer Service and turnaround time is average. Overall Rating for Sanyo warranty and customer service is 14.

Comfort & Ergonomics: Comfort and ergonomics are important design characteristic with a shiatsu massage chair. Sanyo designed the DR7700K to compete in the luxury class known for comfort and relaxation. This shiatsu lounger is well padded with nice upholstery. The armrests are padded and comfortable. The Sanyo DR7700K is a bit restrictive to accommodate taller users. Sanyo designed this chair for the Asian market and is importing it here without modifying it for the taller American market. The Sanyo DR7700K is a 15 in Comfort & Ergonomics.

East of Use: With the advance of electronics, the controls and features can just be overwhelming unless you work for NASA or JPL. Sanyo has made the controller fairly simple to use compared to what is out there. There are 4 automatic programs where one can select and just sit back and relax. There is one button to take you to Zero Gravity which is nice. A side panel contains many manual controls with basic controls for the massage techniques and the lower body air system. The sub-remote allows the chair to be raised or lowered and has the stiffness detector built in. Our rating in this category is 19.

Key Features: The most prominent features of the Sanyo HEC-DR7700K are the GK Rollers and Zero Gravity. Zero Gravity is a leaned back position where the pressure from your body evenly distributed across your back and your knees are above your heart. The GK Rollers are jointed massage heads that push outward from the chair back and can grip your shoulders. The most impressive feature is the GK rollers as they bring a third dimension into the robotic massage world. The sensation of the rollers coming over the top of your shoulders is an important advance in massage chair technology. The massaging capabilities of the Sanyo HEC-DR7700K are solid. Our rating in this category is 18.

Massage Therapy: The Sanyo HEC-DR7700K has both automatic and manual massage settings. Sanyo incorporates 4 full body automatic courses, 4 manual massage courses, and 5 massage speed settings for a total combination of 83 manual massage courses. The manual massage techniques include Shiatsu, Kneading, Tapping, and Kneading & Tapping. Sanyo has some stretching capabilities for the lower body and has 24 airbags of coverage. The airbags have projections to perform shiatsu acupressure massage. There is a good variety of massage therapy techniques in this massage lounger. The Sanyo HEC-DR7700K is a 19 in Massage Therapy.

We just reviewed 5 categories ranging from warranty to features to ergonomics. How does the Sanyo HEC-DR7700K Based on the 5 categories the total score for the Sanyo HEC-DR7700K is a 85/100. The Sanyo HEC-DR7700K provides fairly thorough full body massage therapy. The technology is innovative and reliable. Sanyo has one of the weaker warranties providing less protection for the customer. The Sanyo HEC-DR7700K integrates some interesting features to locate trouble areas and provides good relief to the shoulders and neck. The Sanyo has most of the elements of a great massage chair, but seems to be lacking from its roots. The sensory experience missing seems to be music and with Sanyo’s background in stereos just seems odd. This is a luxury class massage chair and has solid technology, but just seems a bit incomplete. The Sanyo HEC-DR7700K is just average for the luxury class of shiatsu massage chairs.

Why You Should Consider Diffusing Essential Oils

September 26, 2010 by

Essential oils are a curiosity to many folks — they smell nice, but they’re just not sure what to do with them, never mind how to get the most from aromatherapy’s science-proven benefits (like antiviral, antibacterial and stress-reducing actions). So where to start?! Inhale! Breathe them in! By using a diffuser to accelerate the evaporation of oils in the air around you, not only does your place smell great, but its the best way to use the most sought-after uses of aromatherapy: immune system and emotional support. We’ll start with a quick review of the potential benefits of diffusing essential oils for your family, with specific notes for children, then look at the best diffusers for each use.

Scientifically Proven Health Benefits of Essential Oils

The body of research revealing the diverse therapeutic and medicinal actions of essential oils has grown exponentially in the last several years. Research abstracts (summaries of investigations) are freely available through the online database maintained by the National Institute of Health. Many essential oils have been shown to be antidepressants, stress-relieving, and sleep-improving. Other oils have been shown to be potent airborne antibacterial agents, while others have the ability to destroy live viruses. Some of these same oils actually improve the function of our immune system, and some can change our cells in such a way to make them more resistant to viral infection. ALL these benefits can be had by evaporating various concentrations of essential oils in your environment by using a diffuser. Essential oil diffusers do come in many styles, and some are better suited to certain applications than others. Here’s a review of the diffuser styles available to help you make the best choice for your needs.

Diffusers For Antiviral/Antimicrobial Action & Immune Support

In order to best disinfect the air in your surroundings, you can imagine you’d need a little bit more essential oil than what evaporates from an aromatherapy candle. To get this amount of output requires a “nebulizing” diffuser. To “nebulize” an essential oil means to make a very fine mist, which quickly and easily evaporates. Some diffuser manufacturers claim their diffusers make smaller droplets of mist than others, but the truth is they all will work. The droplets all “disappear” completely upon leaving the diffuser, without any residue around the machine. To best conserve your oils while still creating these therapeutic effects, you’ll want a timer system too — some come with them built-in, though the most versatile will be external, fully-programmable timers you can find online or in a hardware store.

The nebulizers come in two styles: “cold air” and “ultrasonic”. The cold air units use only air pressure to diffuse the oils, and output the highest concentration of any diffuser type. The ultrasonic is essentially a small water-humidification unit, where oils are mixed with water and then evaporated. Both styles typically have output controls, so you can turn up or down the amount of oil being diffused. They are also both exceptionally quiet.

Diffusers for “Aroma”therapy: Anti-Stress and Emotional Support

For simple aromatic use — where oils are used for uplifting your spirits, calming or helping your children sleep, or just making your environment smell fantastic, a “fan” or “warming” diffuser is totally appropriate. The fan diffusers work by blowing air from a small fan over a pad that has been saturated with essential oils — the warming diffusers work the same way, but with a little bit of heat (they don’t get so hot as to burn anyone, and are safe to use around kids). The fan units will emit a quiet hum when on, the warming units will be silent — and the fan units will generally emit aroma into a moderately-sized space, while the less-expensive warming units are suited for a single room.

Conserving Your Oil Supply: Use A Timer For Best Results

The best way to use the least amount of essential oil for your needs is to use a timer — either built-in to the diffuser or a readily-available appliance timer. For ANY application, whether simple aromatic use or medicinal needs, one need only be exposed to the diffused oils for a few minutes at a time. Aromatically, your “smell scent” will become quickly accustom to the aroma, and you’ll start to think the diffuser isn’t working anymore. Running the diffuser for only a few minutes every half an hour lets your nose “forget” the oils are in the air. The same principal works for disinfecting the air and immune-system support — there’s no need to over-saturate the air with essential oils. They are so potent that there’s no need to continually diffuse a high concentration for these results.

Choosing Oils For Your Purpose

All essential oils have naturally different chemical make-ups. That’s what gives them their individual aromas and their individual therapeutic actions. For an uplifting, pleasing atmosphere, the “evergreen” oils are very nice: Fir Needle, Spruce, and Juniper Berry. These are excellent antidepressant aromatics too, along with the citrus oils: Bergamot, Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit and the like, plus Rose and other uplifting flower-scents. For calming and better rest, Lavender is the first choice; when folks aren’t a fan of this popular floral oil, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang are great choices. For all the purposes, its important to use oils you or your family actually like the smell of! There are MANY oils to choose from, and by sampling a few, you’re sure to find something everyone enjoys.

For immune support and air-cleaning, there are many oils highly regarded for their antimicrobial actions. Bay laurel is very nice, and scientifically shown to be an effective anti-viral. “Plain” Lemon and Rosemary oils are excellent antibacterials, as is Lemon Tea Tree (very potent), Lemongrass, and Eucalyptus Radiata (shown specifically to help our white blood cells function better). Most oils that are sharper and brighter will be effective, but be careful as there are some herb-oils that are too strong to diffuse, like Oregano and Thyme, along with the spice oil Cinnamon. In any case, use your judgment with the aromas: if they seem to intense, they are — and either switch to a different oil or turn down the diffuser output. Also be aware that children are MUCH more sensitive to essential oils than adults — adjust your use as necessary, and consult a reputable guide to using essential oils with children.

Conclusion: Diffuse Your Oils for Best Results!

Essential oil diffusers are inexpensive and easily purchased at a local health food store and around the internet. Look for a unit specifically designed for use with pure essential oils, rather than “fragrance oils” (man-made replicates of natural scents — there is no “pumpkin pie” essential oil, for example!). If you’re not sure which oils to start with, there are many guides and great books available, and many aromatherapy companies will have support staff to help get you started. The world of aroma-medicine is available to you, and diffusing oils in your home is a great beginning in this realm of natural medicine.

Many consider chiropractic treatments as an alternative health care methodology. However, chiropractic treatment is a main stream health care method focused on skeletal system discomfort. Chiropractic medicine is more famous for is focus on the health of the spinal column. They use a range of treatments to deal with the muscles, nervous system, skeletal system and other soft tissues of the body. Massage therapy is used for patients soft tissue treatments to help improve range of motion, reduce discomfort and increase muscle flexibility. Massage chairs are being employed to automate many of these treatments.

Chiropractic medicine has become very popular in the general public. Traditionally, a chiropractor was focused on relieving back pain and headaches. However, back pain and headaches are symptoms. Chiropractors are focused on finding the causes of these symptoms.

Chiropractors work under the theory that given the right circumstances, situation and nutritional support the body will heal itself. The chiropractor seeks to relieve any undue pressure on the nerve endings that exist in the spinal column. By allowing sufficient nervous control of the body, cells and tissues the chiropractor allows the body to work towards self-healing.

With this in mind, doctors apply certain therapies to help the body to take back over the healing process. Therapies may include spinal adjustments, electrical muscle stimulation, and massage treatments. Massage chairs are used to provide complementary therapies in addition to just massage therapy.

The goal of chiropractic medicine is to get the body to restore itself to maintain its own healing. The role of the doctor is to jump start the process by performing repetitive treatments to get the body to restore itself. The doctor provides these therapies until the body can take them back over.

Massage chairs have found their way into many doctors offices. They provide an excellent means to automate many manual methods. They also provide a consistent and reliable means to administer repetitive treatments to patients. This helps both the doctor and the patients to receive consistent treatments.

There are numerous massage treatments that can be performed with todays advanced massage chairs. You can use them for a general body warm up or warm down. They can apply a specific technique to a given area of focus. The consistency of the massage and the duration can be controlled as required.

Massage chairs come equipped with automatic programs and with manual programs. The automatic programs are usually one touch and run the whole massage chair. Manual programs are used to apply specific massage techniques.

One nice feature of massage chairs is the application of massage therapy to a given region of the body and also for a given duration of time. This provides consistency of massage therapy to patients by eliminating the inconsistencies of massage applied by massage therapists. The intensity of the massage can also be controlled as well, giving the doctor an excellent means to control the periodic application of massage.

Massage chairs have also integrated other therapies such as heaters, traction systems and even music. Heaters are built into the chair and come with individual controls for different sections of the chair. Traction systems provide stretching of the lower body and even the arms and shoulders.

Massage chairs provide great flexibility. Massage can be applied to the lumbar while heaters warm the legs. Or warm the back while the traction is applied to the lower body. There are many new and unique options that new technology is making available with massage chairs.

Doctors of chiropractic medicine are trained to restore the body so that it can fully function on its own. Treatments are applied on a periodic, recurring basis to get the body to take back over the healing process. Massage chairs have proven to be invaluable to provide consistent and repetitive massage treatments and other complementary therapies.

Today’s Massage Chairs are rapidly advancing with the steady march of science and technology. A massage chair can be used at home or work. The same therapies used by chiropractors are available when you most need them. View our Omega Massage Chairs that are used extensively in the chiropractic field. Panasonic has introduced a new mid-level massage chair which is model EP MA20 KU. This is part of the new real Pro collection massage chair series. Panasonic has also added the Junetsu massage technique. The Junetsu massage technique is known as ultra fine kneading. It actually makes a circular motion similar to the twisting of the thumb. This provides for good relief and penetration through the muscle tissue.

Review About The Panasonic EP-30003 KU Massage Chair

September 21, 2010 by

Panasonic has introduced a new series of massage chairs. This new series is called the Real Pro Ultra. There last series was the Real Pro Elite. The first of this series is the EP 30003 massage chair. This review will look at some of the features and discuss the warranty coverage of this chair. This chair is a mid range model in the $2,000 to $3,000 price range.

Let us first take a look of the warranty of the EP-30003. The warranty coverage is your protection from defects from the factory. You want strong warranty coverage since it protects you from unknown problems in the future. This is a big ticket item, so it is important you get trouble-free enjoyment for the amount you are paying. Panasonic provides a 3 year warranty on the parts. You get 1 year on the labor with 1 year of shipping expense covered for parts if needed. Also, in home technician service is now available from Panasonic. You can get an extended warranty to match the major chair manufacturers but at additional cost. It is recommended that you get the extended warranty.

We are currently seeing an explosion of new technologies and features being poured into massage chairs by their manufacturers. The price of the features is dropping to integrate, so features are being added without significant price increases. The next challenge for manufacturers is to keep the controls simple enough to use without having a PHD. Panasonic has tremendous experience with electronics, so we expect their controllers to reflect that knowledge. We are not disappointed. The remote control is simple and easy to use. Panasonic has one touch automatic programs which operate massages based on themes. Also, they have included a voice guidance system to help walk users through using the controls.

The important features of the Panasonic EP-30003 are the Junetsu massage and the extendable leg rest. Panasonic research has yielded a new massage technique called Junetsu. This technique is aimed at deep penetration of the muscles. It uses small circular motions combined with firm pressure. This combination provides for a penetrating and invigorating massage to targeted areas of the back. Junetsu is defined as ultra fine kneading and this is an effective massage technique. The other key feature we like is the extendable leg rest. Although this is not quite as exciting as the Junetsu, it is important for the American market. With few exceptions, massage chairs are designed for the Asian market and secondarily exported to America. The typical American is taller and heavier than the typical Asian. This is reflected in massage chairs which are small for Americans. Panasonic finally introduces 5 critical inches to extend the leg rest. It is a start in the right direction.

The Real Pro Ultra has a sleek, post modern design. It is somewhat industrial in its design and lacks some designer touches. This is a bit of a drawback. The massage recliner is comfortable to sit in. It has soft padded armrest covers. The synthetic leather is surprisingly soft to the touch. There is a contoured head pillow to give support. The backpad has adequate padding to be soft to sit in. The rollers do not stick out too far when not in use, so the chair is comfortable to sit in when not being used for massage. This is overall a well designed chair.

This is perhaps the most important category, since the massage makes or breaks the chair. The Panasonic EP-30003 comes with automatic and manual programs. For one touch convenience, select from four 15-minute Pre-Programs, One 5-minute Quick Program. The Pre-programs or automatic programs include Shiatsu, Swedish, Deep, Stretch and Quick. Shiatsu is for severe tightness and tension; Swedish is for gentle invigoration and enhanced blood flow: Deep is for mild tightness and tension; Stretch is for a refreshing stretch of the lower body; Quick is for a variety of techniques in 5 minutes. Manual massage techniques include: Junetsu, Shiatsu, Swedish, Knead, Stretch, Tap and Full Roll. The lower body air system covers the calves and feet only.

The Real Pro Ultra is the new series of massage chairs by Panasonic. The EP-30003 is the entry level lounger at the mid range price level. We like the Junetsu massage techniques for its deep penetration capability. This is a great innovation included in this chair. The aesthetic design of this chair is its only major issue with us. The quality and reliability of this chair is pretty solid. If you are looking a mid tier massage chair, this is definitely worth your consideration.

It’s interesting to see how we all react under stress. Our fiscal reaction is all the same. Our body senses the stress from the mind and prepares itself for fighting or to flee. We have increased strength and stamina and are ready for direct action.

When we come under stress, our body releases adrenaline. This primes the pump and increases the heart rate and blood flow. The body also goes into self protect mode. It redirects blood to critical processes for immediate action. Other less important processes are minimized. We are ready for action, but do we actually take action?

Modern times has shifted stress from less physical dangers to more psychological. We may stress about paying our bills. This causes a stressful reaction on the body. As our mind ruminates on its stressors, our bodies are filled with tension.

A build up of these psychological stresses causes pain, stiffness and tension in your body. The muscles are becoming fatigued under the stress and lack of physical release. The body is being held under tension which impacts it in potentially harmful ways.

Many people have turned to massage therapy as a natural remedy for pain, discomfort and relaxation. This type of treatment helps relieve and soothe the muscles, joints and soft tissue areas.

It is also used to relax the mind. Most of the stress we experience is from the mine ruminating on these issues. It causes tension in the body. When the mind relaxes, then it releases the tension in the muscles.

However, the key to getting healthy benefits from massage therapy is to receive them on a frequent and periodic basis. It is like diet and exercise; you must do it more than once. If you can make it a habit then this is very beneficial to the body short-term and long-term.

Massage chairs provide a practical alternative to a massage therapist. There is quite an astounding amount of technology contained in today’s massage chairs. The most common problems cited for people not getting frequent massages is having to go to the massage therapist at a certain place and time.

Massage chairs provide the convenience of in-home therapy. Think of how convenient it is to get a 10 minute massage before your first cup of coffee in the morning. Need a break at lunch? Reflexology – A Path To Holistic Wellness

September 16, 2010 by

Understanding the benefits of Reflexology is important before beginning a regimen that will bring you closer to holistic wellness. The reported benefits re likely what drew you toward the idea of reflexology in the first place, but if it is done incorrectly, you may actually do more harm than good.

Holistic balance is the main goal of reflexology. It treats the body as one whole organism instead of zeroing in on specific symptoms. Everything in the body, according to the principle, is interconnected in a continuous cycle. You have to bring the balance back if you want to correct the small issues. That is how whole body wellness is achieved.

Pressure points are used in Reflexology, mostly in the foot, hand, and ear to alter certain functions in the body to increase the supply and circulation of blood,as well as promote better nervous system function. The action of both of these systems can be improved with the proper stimulation of the pressure points.

To summarize here, Reflexology is a means to cleanse your body and restore the natural flow within your system in a physical sense as well as in regards to the overall energy flow. This can play a large role in normalizing the glands and reducing physical as well as emotional tension on the body.

Far from a miracle cure, this alternative healing method is widely believed (with actual fervent testimonials) has the potential to be a very powerful healing effect. If you are interested in holistic wellness, this is a great place to start your path towards spiritual and physical balance while removing unwanted, health impeding barriers.

Reflexology can also have a profound influence on other disorders and diseases such as back pain, circulatory issues, migraines, sleep disorders, emotional and mental disturbances and general fatigue. Some elderly people even report improvement in their arthritis.

Stress is a much too common problem in the lives of many people today and reflexology can help us to mitigate these disturbances by regulating the energy flow in the body.Barriers can make shedding the negative thoughts and feelings difficult, and stress has been scientifically proven to cause physical distress. Isn’t it ideal that Reflexology can take both of those birds with one stone?

The psychological benefits of alternative healing therapies such as reflexology include improved self-confidence and concentration, on top of lowered stress levels. These improvements are really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how much better you can feel by restoring your energy balances with reflexology. The greater the unity between mind, body and spirit, the healthier you will be, plus reflexology is relaxing.

Holistic Wellness is within your reach through reflexology and other alternative healing methods. Discover the benefits of this method and others at the #1 East Coast Holistic Wellness Blog

Metabolic Passageways

Knowing metabolism and its function in the body system is ideal. However, you should also familiarize yourself with its two kinds:

1. Constructive – The process of developing complex substance from the basic ones. It’s also known as anabolism.

2. Destructive – The process of breaking down complex substance in order to create and discharge energy. This is somehow the opposite of anabolism.

Metabolic pathway is the series of chemical reaction involving the cells in our body system. The chemical is being modified in each of the passageway that the chemical pass by. You should be aware that in one cell there could be lots of metabolic pathways which are cause by various chemicals included in the process.

Below are just a few of the most known vital metabolic passageways:

* Glycolysis – the very first among metabolic pathways that has been discovered. It allows conversion of glucose into pyruvate which acts as the primary connection of various metabolic pathways.
* Citric acid cycle – Sir hans Adolf Krebs is the discoverer of citric acid cycle. This cycle functions to convert protein, fats and carbohydrates into body energy. It is sometimes called Kreb’s cycle.
* Oxidative Phosphorylation – this metabolic pathway is in charge of using the energy released in nutrients oxidation. This is the most effective way of releasing body energy. Moreover, there are scattered process of oxidative phosphorylation in the body system.
* Pentose phosphate pathway – this is responsible for producing Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) which is then responsible for producing free radicals which is essential in immune system.
* Urea cycle – this is a chemical reaction that usually happens inside the body particularly in the liver to produce urea which is later excreted in our urine.
* Fatty acid oxidation (-oxidation) – You should be aware of the importance of fatty acids in your body. It works the same with protein and carbohydrates. This metabolic pathway involves breaking down of fatty acids to discharge energy.
* Gluconeogenesis – this is responsible for glucose manufacturing inside your body. It’s also a metabolic pathway.
* Anaerobic respiration – this is the primary tools for bacteria that can exist in no oxygen environment. It’s one way of manufacturing energy without involving any oxygen in the method.
* HMG-CoA reductase – This plays an important role in creation of dimethylallyl pyrosphate (DMAPP) and Isopentenyl pyrophosphate (IPP), which is responsible for the development of molecules that’s essential to other system. It is also known as meyalonate pathway.
* Porphyrin synthesis -D-aminolevulinic acid (dALA) is developed from this metabolic pathway which is cause by amino acid glycine with succinyl-CoA from and the citric acid cycle.

These metabolic pathways can occur to both living and non-living organisms. Glycolysis, citric acid cycle, oxidative phosporylation and anaerobic respiration is to living organisms while fatty acid oxidation, Gluconeogenesis, pentose phosphate, urea cycle, HMG-CoA reductase pathway, and porphyrin synthesis is to non-living organisms.
