If you are like thousands of other people suffering with stress and anxiety or not getting enough sleep. These can lead to more health problems if not addressed correctly. Meditation is the simplest and most beneficial way to relieve symptoms of stress. There are basic techniques that are easy to grasp and can be done anytime of the day.

It may seem a little overwhelming or confusing on how to begin so start with small basic forms such as in breathing techniques. First step is to find a comfortable and quiet place. Once you are comfortable and away from outside interferences and with eyes closed, begin the breathing technique as follows: concentrate on your breathing and the rhythm of it. Breathe in deep and exhale turning all of your concentration inward toward the breathing. After a brief time you will be in a calm and relaxed state.

This and other breathing exercises that are practiced every day will soon become habit when you are feeling anxious or stressed. After you have learned to concentrate on the breathing rhythm, attempt to lengthen the inhales and exhales. For practice this start with five minutes and increase daily until you reach thirty minutes.

Focusing techniques are also beneficial as stress reducing methods. Using a lit candle, sit in quiet and focus on the flame of the candle. As things appear in your thoughts attempt to let them go without concentrating on them. In order for this to be effective, you will need to be completely uninterrupted and able to concentrate fully on just the flame.

The next technique involves some practice because you will be literally concentrating on nothing. Again find a quiet place and let your mind go blank. Try to not think of anything in particular. There will be thoughts coming and going, the difficult part is to not apply concentration to them. When thoughts come to you, breathe out and release the thought.

For some the techniques involving sitting alone and thinking of nothing or staring at a candle may be uncomfortable. If this is the case search your home for an object you love to look at. Using the technique for the candle flame, focus on the chosen object. Use the same object for each session that you practice. Also implementing breathing forms into this technique may be extra beneficial.

Taking advantage of all that mediation has to offer, means practicing the exercises until you find the form that best fits you and your lifestyle. After you have practiced for a month or more, you will begin to notice the calmness in yourself. The technique you choose should be one you are comfortable with and it should be done daily.
