A new phrase has struck a different cord in me lately if you don\’t exercise your body will turn rancid. Exaggeration? Not as much as you might think. Much is known now about why there is a steady deterioration in tissue health if we don\’t exercise. Sports and exercise are compatible.

Saying that exercise is healthy is too abstract a thought to be motivational. \”Your body will go to hell if you don\’t exercise.\” is a phrase who\’s motivational benefits has worn off a long time ago. But, knowing more about how we fall apart could help. And, also knowing how sports and diabetes fit together helps too.

There is a bomb making factory in many of us generating road side combustibles – systemic inflammation. This suicide bomber in you is called visceral fat. Visceral fat is the greasy globs of fat wrapped around your gut, in addition to the greasy globs of bubbly fat just below your skin.

Many doctors believe the lack of exercise, more than the over indulgence is behind the growth of the bomb factory tied to your gut, the visceral fat.

Visceral fat is where all the action in when it comes to burning you down to the ground. Systemic inflammation, can put you into the ground. And, all of this is tied to that bomb factory, the visceral fat bound to your gut which encourages systemic inflammation.

And, here\’s the kicker, when the damage finally shows up you are already way down the road. You can\’t see chronic inflammation, It just smolders on unnoticed.

Biochemicals called enzymes speed things up or get things done. Beneficial enzymes called myokines are released by skeletal muscles during exercise. They suppress the systemic inflammation generated by visceral fat in a novel way, they act like a hormone.

This anti-inflammatory benefits that these enzymes can effect, is temporary at best. Why? Because, each bout of exercise releases it\’s accumulated load of myokines and that\’s it. All we can say is that it will suppress systemic inflammation, a major mechanism of tissue degeneration. Sports and diabetes, an important combination.

The survival of humans and animal is entirely dependent upon movement. Many of our systems came to depend on the organs of movement to assist them. Leg veins omitted developing muscles to return blood from the legs during evolution, instead depending upon leg muscles to squeeze the blood upwards. A number of other organs are just as dependent upon movement to complete their assigned tasks. The inactivity of modern life is defeating our bodies well organized economy of existence. It\’s an absolute truth, if we don\’t use it, we will loose it.
