If you suffer from hypertension or high blood pressure then you will need to see about lowering high blood pressure. A normal blood pressure is considered to be at lower than 120/80 and anything above–0/90 is considered to be high and your heart is putting too much pressure on your arteries.
The top number in a blood pressure reading is the systolic pressure and this relates to the force of blood in the arteries as the heart contracts and the bottom number is the diastolic pressure. The diastolic pressure is the force of blood in the arteries during the heart’s resting stage between beats.
High blood pressure is an issue because it can lead to heart disease, kidney disease, hardening of the arteries, stroke, brain damage and eye damage. Organ damage is considered the end result of high blood pressure as you can go for years with high blood pressure before damaging your organs.
Once diagnosed, there are several options available to for lowering high blood pressure. As a first step you can make some lifestyle changes which include eating a healthy diet. The types of food you eat will affect your blood pressure and switching your diet to high in fruits, vegetables, fish, nuts and low in fatty foods, red meat and dairy products is recommended. Consuming too much salt can lead to high blood pressure so cutting out sodium can also help.
Losing weight can help you lower your blood pressure as being overweight does increase your blood pressure. Smoking and excessively drinking alcohol are also factors that will increase your blood pressure. If you must drink alcohol, do so in moderation. If you can stop smoking, you will be way ahead of the game as well.
You can use medically-prescribed drugs for lowering high blood pressure as most medications are very effective. Beta-blockers lower blood pressure by causing your heart to relax and beat slower. Diuretics work on the kidneys instead of the heart and flush out excess water and salt that may be causing your high blood pressure. Sometimes high blood pressure can be caused by hormones and if this is the cause then a hormone inhibitor called angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor can be used.
Having too much calcium in the heart can cause the heart to become tense. A calcium channel blocker can be used to relax blood vessels and the heart. Alpha blockers will affect your nervous system so that it allows for better blood flow by stopping some nerve messages. Alpha-beta-blockers are a combination of alpha blockers and beta blockers so this medication slows downs the heart and causes blood flow to be smoother.
Amongst the easiest ways to help your high blood pressure is to reduce weight. Using some of the south beach diet exercise routines may be the easiest way to reduce those surplus inches.
