Losing weight becoming healthy and fit requires more than just dieting; it requires a new lifestyle. Let me explain further the difference between just dieting to lose weight and losing weight to be healthier and feel great.

The truth is many weight loss efforts fail because dieting is not meant to work long term. Once you resume your previous eating habits the weight will return, often packing on more pounds. If you want to lose weight and be healthy this is a change that must come from within. There are no quick fixes, miracle pills, or fad diets that will keep the weight off and promote healthy living.

In order to successfully keep weight off, you must first make the commitment to want to change. Sure everyone wants to lose weight, but not everyone has the committed to doing so. I am not talking about dropping a few pounds for an event or to fit into that special outfit, but really considering your food choices and developing an exercise regimen that will work.

Changing does not mean that you cannot eat your favorite foods, you just have to eat them in moderation. Instead of having a huge piece of pie, take a small piece. Replace a bowl of hand churned ice cream with yogurt or a piece of fruit.

The biggest problem is avoiding that special craving; your weakness. This can be soft drinks, cakes, cookies, candy; whatever it is, it must be eliminated. Now this does not mean you can never had a piece of cake for the rest of your life, it just means you have to choose to limit these high calorie goodies.

The key is not to try and make drastic changes all at once. You can start with minimal exercise and eliminating foods one by one or you can go cold turkey. It is important that if you have been inactive for a period of time, not to jump right into an extensive workout. You should consult with your physician if you have any health concerns.

This new ways of eating will take some getting used to. Try new seasonings, use lemon and pepper; basil, oregano, garlic, etc. The only way to tell if you like something is to try it.

It really does not matter what other people think about you; it is your happiness that counts. Losing weight may be necessary for your health or you just want to start living healthier.

Whatever the case, remember that it will take some time. You may hit plateaus and you will run into obstacles, but perseverance will prevail in your weight loss efforts.
