We see a lot of packaged diet foods on the shelf these days. These may be promoted as Lite, Diet, low carb, low calorie, or low fat foods. But since the US has a big obesity problem, and since we Americans buy a lot of diet foods, one has to question these packaged foods.

What are Real Diet Foods?

High water content foods provide satisfaction without adding a lot of calories. They also tend to provide healthy vitamins and minerals. Almost all vegetables and fruits make good choices. They help us feel satisfied without adding a lot of calories.

Meat as a Side Dish

We are not asking you to start eating like your pet bunny either! We are just asking you to try changing the way you approach your meals. We tend to take a lot of meat and bread, and then put a little salad or veggies on our plate. Instead, pile your plate high with salad and green beans. Then add a small portion of bread and protein.

Fruit is Candy From Mother Earth

Fruit is nature’s candy, and even kids will be happy to grab handfuls of sweet grapes instead of junk food. You can eat a lot of grapes for the same calories you get in one candy bar. In fact, you will probably decide that you do not even want to eat that many grapes. You will be full.

Chocolate as Diet Food

If you should not eat a lot of chocolate while dieting, you can certainly enjoy chocolate drinks! Try low fat chocolate milk or hot chcolate. This is great. For a few calories you can satisfy a chocolate craving, and you can take in protein, vitamins, and minerals.

Try Negative Calorie Foods

We want you to enjoy your favorite foods. Just try to stick in some things that will not add a lot of calories (or any) to your diet. Slice up onions, peppers, and zuchini to bulk up spaghetti sauce. Even if you use meat and cheese, a serving will contain far less calories.

You can also find some types of food that are so full of fiber they have a negative calorie impact. Japanese konnyaku noodles are one good example.

What About A Night Out?

If you want to go to a pizza buffet, be sure and enjoy a large salad first. If you take ten minutes to enjoy a big salad, you will be less likely to stuff yourself on pizza. A big salad and two medium pizza slices is as filling as five pizza slices. You have saved your body a ton of fat and calories too.

Can you Find Working Diet Food?

Many medical studies have confirmed this approach. They found that diets high in water content food and fiber help people feel satisfied when they are losing weight.
