Lingerie comes in many types, colors and styles of garments and a corset is a lingerie underwear worn on the body from the chest to the waist giving the body a slimming effect. Some don’t think about corsets and basques in this modern day as part of lingerie but these pieces are considered lingerie and are just as sexy as other types of lingerie underwear. Corsets were introduced in the late seventeen hundreds and even though they have changed over the years the basic make-up has remained the same. The basque is a variation of the corset and is basically a longer version that goes over the waistline and covers the hips.
The basque and corset garments pull the waist in so the chest and hip area are more visibly noticeable giving the body an appealing appearance. Many women wear these for the purpose of accentuating their curvy figure. These pieces of women’s apparel are worn underneath clothing to allow for their figure to look better in certain fashionable outfits. The lingerie styled articles are made with fancier materials and can have lace, ribbons and other decorations to make them all the more pleasant to look at. Another use for corsets is also wearing them as a piece of lingerie to feel sexy and to entice a person’s partner.
Corsets and basques come in every solid color imaginable, varied color patterns and in numerous styles. Many close around the body by lacing up or using the hook and eye fastening technique and it’s quite popular to have vertical seams on the bodice area for extra support. Many of these articles include brassiere cups and some have garters to add to the expression of the apparel. In today’s times some corsets have cut-out designs that allow parts of the body to be visible. Brides wear corsets to hold in their bodice area to look more astounding in their wedding dresses and to give an added element of sexiness for the beginning of the honeymoon.
The fashion industry has taken the word corset in more recent years to use for describing tops that resemble what a corset is, but they don’t actually perform the purposes that corsets do. These tops are known as corset tops and they are transforming what women wear and when. Even though popular and trendy, they are not made to emphasize body parts as the original corset does, they are more of a fashion statement.
These articles of lingerie can be worn for special occasions or any day a woman wants to become a special day. Brides wear corsets to hold in their bodice area to look more astounding in their wedding dresses and to give an added element of sexiness for the beginning of the honeymoon. Just as with any fashion statement, corsets and basques allow a woman to feel more desirable thereby opening up doors for exciting ways to express love, or be worn during formal functions, clubbing, during the social occasions such as pubs or even shopping.

I do think basques and corsets are such a wonderful invention for all women. The fact that if you are slightly overweight in the tummy area and you want to flatten your tummy, all you have to do is grab your corset or even a bustier which has the added effect of uplifting your boobs to a pert position and strap yourself in and you would look good in any dress. How do you think some of Hollywood’s famous manage to look so good in those evening gowns. OK, so some of them have private trainers but if you are on the D list like Kathy Griffin or some others then a corset is just as good if not better than a personal trainer and with less effort too. Every forward thinking women should have one of these items in their lingerie drawers. In times of need they really do get you out of a pickle or at least stop you looking like one. Long live the bustier, the corset, the basque and anything that makes you look good in an expensive ball-gown.
