OK, your blood pressure is through the roof (HBP) or you have hypertension (HPT). Is it really that bad? Yes, both HBP and HPT will in time cause serious damage to your blood vessels. This in turn can lead to some pretty severe problems such as an increased risk for stroke, kidney failure, heart attacks and heart disease. One major side effect of each of these conditions is of course death, so yeah, it is pretty bad. If you think you may want to hang around long enough to raise your family and even spend time with your grandkids, you have to get busy getting your HBP under control now. There are basically two ways to handle HBP; medication and lifestyle changes. A hybrid approach may be needed unitl your HBP is fully under control.

A lot of people choose the medication approach which, at first, may seem to be the easier route. The problem is, as is the case with most medications there are some serious side effects that need to be considered. There are a good number of different medicines for the treatment of HBP so the side effects may vary. Some of the most common side effects include nausea, dizziness, headaches, extreme tiredness and chest pain. This is only a partial list, but there is one more common, fairly serious problem that you (especially men) should be aware of, Impotence. A lot of men consider this to be so important that they to go off their HBP medicine and often end up in the hospital or worse. Further, due to prior heart and other health conditions, a lot of men are just not candidates for drugs like Viagra.

So, if all these side effects don’t really interest you, then you may want to look more closely at lifestyle alterations. There are several factors that you will need to explore in regards to your present lifestyle: (All may not apply to everyone)

Stop using tobacco

Limit sodium, alcohol and caffeine

Utilize relaxation techniques

Lose weight with a healthy diet

Exercise regularly

These should be pretty much common sense and fairly self explanatory, but working out and diet probably need to be discussed a bit further. Rule number one, as always, talk with your physician before beginning any new weight loss or workout program. In addition, it should be noted that sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy diets are two of the main reasons people have HBP. These two pints are probably the most critical to get under control.

The diet part is actually pretty simple, and is exactly what we all have been told before. But I will point it out one more time. Like was said out above, reduce sodium, caffeine and alcohol intake. Further than that, you need a nutrition plan high in fruits, vegetables and nuts. For all those southerners out there (me included), frying vegetables such as okra and pickles is not healthy. Choose whole grain breads and pastas instead of the overly processed white breads. You should get your protein from lean meats, chicken, turkey and fish. You just need to limit the fat in your meat but you can still eat like you are human. It may cost a bit more but ground sirloin or 93% lean ground beef makes wonderful hamburgers. Basically you want food that is high in potassium, magnesium and fiber, and low fat.

Now, let’s talk exercise. The single most important thing is to get up and get active. You don’t need to go out day one and try to run a marathon or lift the world. Just start out at your own pace, get used to being active and then build your fitness level to where you want it to be. You main focus should be on aerobic and cardiovascular activities. These include vigorous walking, jogging, swimming, hiking or yard work. You can do pretty much any activity that makes you to breathe hard and sweat. Just push to your personally limit, and then try to go a little harder every day. You need to try to get to where you can go hard for about half an hour a day, 3 to 4 days a week. Stretching before and after is critical to avoid muscle injury and soreness. Rest days are also important to allow muscles to grow and heal. Don’t forget, your heart is a muscle too.

You can control and reduce your high blood pressure naturally with out adding all sorts of chemicals to your body. It takes a little effort, but is well worth it. You can achieve a healthier, more productive, much more rewarding life with minimal work.

Just What Is High-Intensity Interval Training?

In today’s day and age, science has been able to identify certain types of exercise routines that can help to improve the health and fitness of humans. There are so many different theories now as it relates to how you should exercise to get the best results, that people often times do not know what to believe or how to go about exercising. However one of the most significant methods is high-intensity interval training. As you will see from the paragraphs to come, this type of training has been proven to provide very good calorie burn as you work out.

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is also referred to as sprint interval training. It is a strategy of exercise that was created with the intention of improving your overall performance with much shorter training sessions. It is really a form of cardiovascular exercise that allows the body to burn fat in very short and intense workout routines.

A normal HIIT workout session could range from 9 to 20 minutes in total. The theory behind this work would routine sets a 2 to 1 ratio for workouts leading into recovery periods. This means, for example, that a runner who does hard sprinting for 15 to 20 seconds will then end up jogging or walking for 10 seconds after each stint.

With most HIIT sessions, there are warm-up exercises that are done first, which are then followed by 6 to 10 repetitions of high-intensity workout exercises. It is important to note that the high-intensity reps are broken up by medium intensity reps of different exercises, and it all comes to a stop with one session of cooling down exercises. The recommendation is for high-intensity exercises to be done at near maximum intensity, while the medium intensity exercises should be done at about 50% intensity.

HIIT is thought to be a great way to get the most results from your workout if time is limited in your case. The idea is to at least accomplish six cycles of exercises and ensure the entire program lasts between 15 and 20 minutes. Try not to go less than 15 minutes or exceed the 20 minute mark. People have noted that doing HIIT sessions has been able to significantly improve their overall athletic performance. If you are the type of person who has reached your maximum level in terms of fitness, you can still continue to use high-intensity interval training to improve your endurance performance.

As you can see, there is not much technicality involved with high-intensity interval training. It follows a very simple technique that is claimed and in some cases proven to produce really great results in terms of burn as well as overall fitness. If time is an issue for you or if you prefer to do shorter exercises, you should definitely consider this type of routine.

Understanding The Great Benefits Of Multivitamins

Often times, people spend a lot of time working out and trying to get fit, but wonder why it is they do not receive the results they are looking for. In many cases, they simply try to change the types of exercise they do. They may start out with a sport like swimming, and end up at the gym doing weight training. However, unless your body is being supplied with the nutrients it needs, you will probably never see the results you are looking for.

The things we eat and how we combine them may not necessarily help us to get sufficient nutrients we need to meet our goals for weight loss and fitness. As such, it would be key to identify a multivitamin that has the right portions of nutrients to help keep your body functioning as it should. Multivitamins have a wide range of benefits, including the following:

They Supply Added Energy — people who have very active lifestyles or very rigid exercise schedules will notice that multivitamins are helpful to keep their energy levels up. If you get winded while working out or just going through your day-to-day tasks, multivitamins will be very effective at cutting down those symptoms.

They Aid in Digestion — having a properly functioning digestive system is dependent on you getting the nutrients you need. Of course, you can get those nutrients from a multivitamin which will help your body absorb the good properties of food much easier. Taking a multivitamin is certainly a good way to help your digestive system function properly.

They Improve Brain Function — if alertness is an issue that you are faced with, multivitamins can help to keep your mind sharp as you go through your day-to-day activities.

They Improve Immune Resistance — multivitamins are known to improve the ability of your immune system to prevent you from becoming ill.

They Correct Nutrient Deficiency — although most people believe they are feeding themselves properly to get the nutrients they need, it is just not possible to get everything from just food. As such, it would make sense to take a multivitamin that fills the gap that the food leaves behind so you get the full supply of nutrients. Once you have the correct supply of nutrients, your body will be fit and able to fight off disease.

They Support Pregnant Women — if becoming a mother is something on your agenda, taking multivitamins can ensure you have the right nutrients for both you and the baby. In particular, multivitamins with folic acid are good at helping to prevent birth defects in babies. After you have delivered your baby, multivitamins can help to keep you energized and provide the right nutrients you need.

Without a doubt, there are several benefits to taking multivitamins and the sooner you get on board, the sooner you will start to experience great results.
