Stress and It\’s Many Causes
December 22, 2009 by Andrew John

Today\’s society is teeming with stress. There is hardly anyone who has never experienced any long-term stressful situation. However, the real causes often remained undiagnosed and even if we managed to get rid of the stress from our lives, it was often done using \”hit-or-miss\” approach rather than anything else. While some causes of stress are relatively popular, many remain hidden even though they are still quite common. Here they are:
Probably the most common reason of stress is lack of sleep. The less we sleep, the more we are prone to anger and irritation. At the same time our ability to think logically and solve problems instead of creating them is decreased. As the result there are more and more things we can\’t cope with – and at that moment the stress is born.
A popular source of stress problems is having hard time at work. If they work too long, have constant rows with their bosses or spend hours in traffic jams on their way to work or home, the stress level skyrockets. If you feel angry at work or while getting there, it is likely that your stress-induced problems have their source at your situation at work.
The lack of job may cause even more problems than having problems at the office. People who are sacked will often feel angry or sad – and such feelings are known to induce stress. A few days without anything to do may be fine – a few weeks may easily get disastrous.
Another thing is money. Having problems with one\’s family budget is actually asking stress to come by. Being worried about one\’s bills and/or having not enough money will quickly make people depressed and cause problems with relationship with other people, especially at home. Sometimes this may even lead to a divorce or separation.
The last common cause of stress is having problems with one\’s family or at least with one of the family members. The only way get rid of it is confrontation: meet the source of your problems and talk everything out. This can take some time and be extremely painful short-term, but it is the only way of freeing yourself of this powerful stress-inducer.

How To Get Rid Of Stress At Work
December 22, 2009 by Andrew John
First of all, keep your home problems locked while you\’re at work (and just the opposite). Do not worry about things that are not going well at home – this will make you less concentrated on your tasks and will only add additional problems to your list while doing no good at all. If you have to worry about anything, do it once you leave the office.
Then, remember you don\’t have to be everyone\’s friend. If there is anyone at work you don\’t like or that doesn\’t like you much, you can just keep your contacts impersonal. Do not be concerned about their opinions about your actions – concentrate on your job. If you fail to do that, the situation will quickly get extremely stressful and unpleasant.
Remember that different jobs have their own kinds of stress that should be dealt with in different ways. For example, if you run your own business venture, the stress usually comes from not knowing if you were right or from fear of the unknown. If you work for a company, the main reason of stress is your team and/or your boss. Some jobs, like being a doctor, are known to require a lot of responsibility, others like a bodyguard or policeman are dangerous to one\’s health. Do not believe in universal methods that can get rid of stress regardless of the kind of work you do.
Despite what we\’ve just said, one thing remains constant: the stress level at work is heavily influenced by your manager and the team you work in. If you want to keep your stress level in check, you have to always cooperate with your boss and other members of the team. Give them a hand whenever you they seem to like it and soon after you will receive similar help from others. Also, keep a good contact with your boss and always let him know about any problems you have. This reduces your stress level and let all the team work together, increasing the effectiveness of your work.
The last type of work-related problems is stress coming from lack of work. Being unemployed is one of the best ways to start feeling worthless and depressed. Such feelings are natural and can\’t be avoided in any other way than finding a job. Just remember that being stressed won\’t help you find a job even a little bit, so do your bes to relax before you start looking for it. The same is true for the job you got, but have no prior experience in things you\’re going to do. The answer is the same: you can\’t just anything about it, but it will pass with the time, so just relax a bit and do your best.

Stress-Talks\”: How To Let Your Stress Go
December 22, 2009 by Andrew John
In case of stress, all too often we feel helpless and alone. We know we should do something about the problem, but we do not have an idea what exactly needs to be done. In such situation, the only solution is to talk about your stress and the situation that has caused it. Be mindful, though: you must not talk to just anyone.
If you want to talk about your stress, choose those who might know solutions for your problems. Here\’s an example: you have problems with the project you work on. Don\’t talk to your colleagues – they may take advantage of your deficiencies. Instead of that, meet your boss. While this won\’t be an easy talk, he will help you solve the problem and remember that you can be trusted.
If you have problems at work, consider going on a short holiday. A week off usually allow you enough rest to let you get back into work and solve your problems in no time. This tactics is used by most experienced managers and it works just fine unless the problems are directly related to the kind of work or a company you are employed in. In such situations you should really think about changing job – it will probably save you severe depression and health problems.
Relationship problems are also best talked over. If you feel bad about anything related to other people, communicate it and talk with everyone involved. This is especially important if you have problems with your family member. Without some discussion, no such problems can be solved and the situation will deteriorate to the point when the situation will spin out of the control.
Love life stress is a special case. While you should still talk and show the other side what exactly causes your stress and try to find a way out together, there is a real chance that it will increase the distance between you and your loved one. However, this may happen only if the other person has already decided to break up. And then, well, it is better to break up earlier than later.
Never ever be afraid about telling others how you feel. This is about the only method of reducing your stress level and surely the only way to eliminate whatever causes your stress in the first place. This is the only chance you have to relieve yourself of all your trouble. Once you tell about it, you will feel a lot better!

How To Make Others Relax
December 22, 2009 by Andrew John

A natural reaction when you see someone suffering from a lot of stress is of course to help him solve the problem and care for him until bad times are gone for good. The trouble is that all too often we don\’t really help – quite the contrary.
Always remember that helping stress-affected people is not some short-time contract. You will have to meet them, talk to them and go out with them for weeks or even months. A single heart-to-heart talk is not enough – only long-term stable relationship is able to give stressed people what they really need – safety and company.
Another thing you have to do is making sure that the stressed out person has something to do (other than worrying). Inviting for a dinner, playing console games or even MMORPG may take one\’s attention from problems and let them relax a bit. Remember also that the more stressed out person moves, the better.
People living under stress for a long time will develop serious problems concerning their problem-solving capabilities. However, at the same time they get better and better in hiding them. Your job as a family member or friend is to look out for the signs of such behavior and offer your help even if you are not asked for assistance. The best thing is to just show interest in one\’s activities and try to help people by working with them rather than for them.
Stress is a dangerous enemy also because it may be very hard to notice. Keep an eye on your friends and loved ones – it is easy to overlook the first signs of coming trouble. If you notice that anyone becomes more and more absent-minded, irritated, and shabby-looking, it should be enough to offer your help. If anyone starts to eat very little or develop sleeplessness – it is a high time to react!
Just remember: you have to be a good friend and help the others to overcome their problems, or just support them during the hard times. You don\’t have to solve their problems – you just need to be there for them. It is the best way for helping others cope with stress and depression.

The Many Faces Of Stress
December 22, 2009 by Andrew John
Stress can affect everybody, but for the same amount of stress or severity of causes everyone reacts in different way, so setting its precise definition is very hard if not impossible. Still stress, unlike many other conditions, affect usually both our mind and body and no one is immune to it.
When we feel that we are under too much pressure and we can\’t function any longer it is possible that we are affected by the stress. In fact stress is present in our live from the moment of birth, but only high doses of it can be disastrous. It is well known truth that we can work faster and better when we are stressed, problems appears only when we are affected by it continuously or the level of the stress is to high for us.
Many of us suffer from stress in work, but the problems start when we start to bring our job problems home. When it happens the whole family suffers and the level of our stress tends to increase. Without enough time to relax and ability to forget about our work when we are with family, we start to suffer from mood swings or even can sink into depression.
For some of us problems with stress start at home. Such situation takes place when we have dysfunctional relationships with our family, or even neighbors. When the level of the stress at home is too high, we are not able to fix even the simplest problems and this usually causes that things get even worse. Stress at home often ends in a vicious circle and can be really hard to deal with, for it affects the whole family.
Another source of the stress is our own mind. Our thoughts and dreams can be as dangerous as problems at work at at home, as long, as we are not able to deal with them. When we fall into the trap of stress and can\’t work past it, we are in deep troubles, for such situation usually affects our emotional and physical condition for long years.
When we feel that the pressure is too high, we should immediately start searching for help. While the problems with too high stress level are usually very personal, the best situation is when the help comes from the source we can trust. Stress can be defeated, although usually it is a difficult and long process. Still, dealing with stress instead of falling into its trap will grant us with happier and healthier live after we will learn how to control it. The most important thing is to start working on it before it is too late.

Stress: Prevent Rather Than Cure
December 22, 2009 by Andrew John
It may sound trivial, but needs to be repeated nevertheless: stress is a dangerous health condition that is able to ruin your health in only a few months\’ time and cause your death after only a couple of years. High blood pressure, lowering immune system\’s defence capabilities, heart attacks and dozens of other potentially lethal effects are directly stress-induced. While the reasons of stress may differ depending on an individual person lifestyle, the effects are equally dangerous and hard to cope with.
The most popular reasons of stress are work problems, family crises, death of a family member or a friend, divorce, diet and health problems themselves. Wherever it comes form, stress can overcome us very quickly and cause untold harm to both our psyche and body. We aren\’t defenseless, but we have to know what to do to cope with the stress if we are to react accordingly.
The first and the easiest thing you can do to prevent stress is to eat better food. In other words, to start a healthier diet. The more junk food you eat, the more probably you will get stressed. You need healthy food – fresh fruits and vegetables instead of snacks – in order to feel really refreshed. Also, remember to savor your meals and never eat meals on the go.
Another important thing is participation in some regular exercise program. Physical exercises help all muscles relax and increase the secretion of endorphins, making people feel better. What is more, exercises will increase one\’s condition, making the body less prone to weariness.
In case of more serious stress-induced problems it might be a good idea to start taking anti-stress medications. Always consult your doctor before doing that – some of them are prescription-only drugs. However, there are also many prescription-free supplements that may help you cope with stress – these are vitamin supplements that can make coping with negative effects of stress much easier. In many cases people suffering from stress develop serious vitamin deficiencies (the body under stress uses more vitamins than usual) and such supplements are the only way to fight them.
The most important thing in fighting stress, however, comes from the outside. In order to let stress go you need other people who will assist you and support you during solving your problems. There must be someone who is there for you – this is extremely important if you are to cope with your stress-related problems.

The Relation Between Food And Stress
December 22, 2009 by Andrew John
If you are to face a stressful situation – an important meeting, a heart-to-heart talk with someone you don\’t like, but you have to meet – you may feel like you need something special to calm your nerves. Most people in such situation grab a piece of chocolate or a cookie. Don\’t worry if you are among them, using food to lower one\’s stress level is a common and effective method of coping with stress. Provided of course that you won\’t overdo it.
The problem with using snack foods and candies to cope with stress is that they can\’t really solve anything. While they work just fine in the short-term, the problems that cause stress do not disappear. And if the stress is a long-term one, snacks become problem themselves. You start overeating, because you feel stressed. Eating starts to be habitual and soon after you start gaining weight and multiply your problems instead of limiting them.
Surprisingly enough, the most dangerous job when it comes to coping with stress by overeating is a truck driver. Long hours, being constantly in the move and having to meet tight deadlines make them eat more and more snack foods to calm down. Soon after that, many of them become overweight – all because of an attempt to reduce the stress level.
Eating food provides some measure of comfort and improves your mood, that\’s true. There are countless mothers who have a candy or a piece of chocolate every time when children start fighting or when they don\’t know an answer to children\’s questions. The problem is that while it makes them feel better, it does not solve any problems: children will still be fighting and asking difficult questions. In case of long-term stress, eating is a short way to gain weight. A lot of weight.
The point is that we can\’t overcome stress using snacks. It may let us go for an hour or maybe even a day, but it will certainly come back – stronger and harder to cope with. If you want to lower the stress level, you have to face the stressful situation and find out what really causes the feeling of stress, then eliminate it. You can always do it, regardless of your present situation. It may be hard at times and a quick victory is rarely possible, but you can start improve your life and reduce the stress level to more manageable level.

Coping With Stress: List Things That Are Stressful To You
December 22, 2009 by Andrew John
If you\’re stressed, knowing true reasons of your state is among the first things you should do to get rid of stress. Coping with the problems that have caused your present situation is the only real way out of trouble you\’re in. However, the problem is that most of the time the real causes of stress are not obvious. If you are to find the real cause, you should start from making a list of all possible reasons of your current situation.
The first part of your list should include all problems you have or used to have in your life. Be thorough – sometimes you may be very stressed because of past problems if they remain unsolved or if you suffer a defeat.
When you finish writing down stressful situations, continue to the next part of the list – people. If anyone adds to your stress by commenting your actions, making you look bad or simply makes you feel awful merely by his or her presence, you should consider increasing distance between yourself and those people. Remember that it is perfectly ok to keep some relationship professional only or even break them up if they are harmful to your well-being.
After you finish writing down people and things that make you feel down, it is time now to start noting more positive things. Think about how you can improve your lifestyle to decrease the stress level in your life. Look at the situations and people from the first two sections of your notes. What can you do about them? Should you consider changing your career path? Move away from your neighbors? Do you need to talk about your problems with someone? Which relationships do you need to cool down?
After you find solutions to most your problems, you should create a list of activities you want to do, but are not included in your daily routine. You have to make your life fuller and funnier if you are to survive – only fun and enjoying your life as it is can keep the stress level in check. So, make sure that you included all activities that make you happy!
When you finish the list, read it again. You will see that all advice you need are already there. All you have to do is to apply them in practice. Just remember to read the list from time to time and add/remove things depending on your current situation. If you do everything you have written down, your stress will soon be gone for good.

Parental Stress: How To Deal With It
December 22, 2009 by Andrew John
Parenting is a combination of hard work and extreme level of responsibility. If you want to do it right, you often have to go at great length to make your children happy and safe. As at times children do not cooperate and make parenting even more difficult and demanding, suffering from parental stress is a common problem among parents regardless of their financial and personal situation.
The problem is that children demand a lot from their parents, often more than they can provide. Unless parents are able to convince their children to give up their wishes (in some other way than just saying "no"), the entire family will suffer from stress. As such situations are inevitable, it is a good idea to learn how to deal with that, especially considering that the problem gets worse with the age.
School problems and romantic relationships are two other problems that have to be scoped with by children, but increase the chance of heart strokes for most parents. The only real way to cope with them is to teach children how to react to such situations, because trying to fix things directly will have only adverse results. Only this can keep parental stress under control.
Parental stress is something that can quickly get out of control. It is very easy even for good parents to start resenting kids and blaming them for every sacrifice parents have made. This is an extremely dangerous situation that everyone has to cope with before endangers the family.
First, remember that you simply have to be patient. Children way of thinking is a little different than adults\’ and nothing can change it. So think twice before saying anything, especially if you are getting angry. Sometimes it is a good idea to walk away and go for a short walk instead of starting a row. While it is ok to be frank with your children, you must not unload parental stress on children – it won\’t help you or your kids.
Do not bring stress from work home. Problems at work have to stay there or your family life will be ruined. This will help you take care of children without shouting at children only because you have a bad day at the office. A good way to keep the work-related stress at work is taking a few deep breaths before coming home. This will let you relax and make you less stressed out before you enter home.
If you want your family to be happy and relaxed, you have to start from yourself. Learn how to breathe properly in order to relax your muscles and let more oxygen into your organism. This will let you cool down faster and more effectively and will help lift everyone\’s mood.

Stress – Know Your Enemy
December 22, 2009 by Andrew John

Stress is in fact an inseparable companion in our life. Still, we react to it in different ways. Some of us learn how to not let it get to them, others close themselves from not only the stress but also other influences and emotions, while many other are very vulnerable to even smallest causes of stress. Still, there are many methods to get rid of the stress, but to follow them and become happy and healthy, you must first know which type of personality you have to know how you can deal with the problem.
The most common types of stress are related to work problems, financial situation or family dysfunctions. In fact everything can be a source of stress as long as we are unable to face given problem and solve it. Of course there are people who cooperate with stress and can use it to get better results, but they are in minority. For most of us stress leads only to worsening of situation.
Although we all want to live stress-free life, sometimes we can\’t avoid it. Still, high levels of continuous stress can be disastrous to ourselves and end in depression, health risks, craziness and hospitalization. This is why it is necessary to learn how to reduce the amount of stress we are exposed to as long as we want to be happy and healthy people. While there are many methods how to get rid of stress, one of the most efficient is positive thinking. When we don\’t have a negative attitude to our lives and we do not worry about too many things at the same time, we are much more resistant to stress and thus can live better life.
Some of us tend to solve their problems alone. Still, in case of the stress they should rather change their habits and accept every help they can get. Speaking with a friend about the situation is far better that being worried alone. What\’s more, when you will reject help and thus lose your friends, the only effect will be higher dose of stress.
As you can see, stress can really change your life for worse. Mood swings, health problems, lost friends, divorce, depression and even suicidal attempts – all can be caused by too much stress. What\’s more, uncontrolled stress tends to increase, small difficulties which appear in our everyday life become to big for you and you fall into a trap of a vicious circle, which is very hard to break. This is why it is extremely important to learn how to stop stress when you can still handle it, not when the pressure is too high and paralyzes you.
